Dhaka to Sylhet flight guide
Flights from Dhaka to Sylhet link Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) with Osmani International Airport (ZYL) in about 50 minutes, covering 194 km nonstop. Multiple airlines fly it: US-Bangla Airlines, Air Astra, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and NOVOAIR. The route suits tea-country visitors, pilgrims bound for the Shah Jalal Dargah and British Bangladeshis heading back to family.
US-Bangla runs the busiest timetable, with six or seven daily ATR 72-600 departures from about 07:00 until 20:50, so there is nearly always a seat later in the day if a morning flight sells out. Air Astra flies three a day on the same aircraft type, starting with 2A431 at 07:25. Biman uses the Dash 8-400, with BG601 late in the morning and BG603 in the early afternoon, and NOVOAIR flies its ATR 72-500 twice each afternoon.
All the airlines list 20 kg of checked baggage and 7 kg in the cabin in standard economy. Every flight is economy only, so the choice comes down to the time that suits you and the fare on the day.
Osmani International lies on the northern edge of the city, and the tea begins almost at the fence. Malnicherra, often called the oldest tea garden in South Asia, is a short ride from the terminal. Most hotels are in town around Dargah Gate and Zindabazar.
Plan around the rain. Most of Sylhet's very heavy rainfall comes between May and September, when Ratargul swamp forest is at its fullest but low roads can flood and storms can hold flights. The drier months from November to March are better for walking the tea estates and for a reliable schedule.
This is a domestic flight, so Bangladeshi passengers check in with a National ID card and foreign visitors with a passport.
US-Bangla's ATR 72-600 has 72 seats, according to a March 2023 report on the airline's fleet, which then counted eight ATR 72-600s, eight Boeing 737-800s and three Dash 8-400s.

General
Biman's De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, with 74 seats. The ATR 72-600 used by US-Bangla and Air Astra has 72, and NOVOAIR's older ATR 72-500 has 68. Every one of them is a turboprop with an all-economy cabin, so there is no premium class to buy on this route.
Yes. Malnicherra is a short drive from Osmani airport, so you can walk the rows of tea before checking in at your hotel. Wear shoes with grip and carry an umbrella, since the paths between the bushes turn slippery after rain.
Getting there
Four intercity trains run between the two cities: Parabat Express, Joyontika, Upobon and Kalni Express. The ride takes a little over seven hours one way, against roughly an hour in the air plus airport time. The train suits travellers who want to watch the tea hills roll by and are not short of time.
Two of the hotels under Where to stay sit at Dargah Gate, one at the gate itself and one on its east side, a short walk from the mausoleum. They suit pilgrims who want to attend prayers at the Dargah several times during their stay without hiring transport each time.
Yes. One of the hotels under Where to stay is in Khadimnagar on Airport Road, next door to the terminal. It works well for a late arrival or an early flight back to Dhaka, though anyone planning to explore the city will spend more time in traffic than guests staying in town.
It can. The Sylhet region gets some of the heaviest rainfall in the country, and monsoon storms occasionally hold departures on the short hop. If you have a connection or an appointment the same day, leave yourself a buffer and recheck the departure time on the day of travel.
On standard economy fares, yes: US-Bangla, Air Astra, Biman and NOVOAIR all list 20 kg in the hold and 7 kg in the cabin. Discounted fares may trim that, so look at the fare conditions if you are carrying gifts or shopping for relatives.
Biman lists London Heathrow and Manchester among its destinations from Osmani, so a return ticket to Britain can begin in Sylhet. Those services route via Dhaka, but on a single Biman ticket you board in Sylhet and your bags stay checked to the UK. Ask for this routing when you book your trip home.
Stay & facilities
Two of the hotels under Where to stay have pools: an upscale hotel with a spa in Shahjalal Upashahar, and a city-centre hotel with an indoor pool on Mirza Jangal Road. A mid-priced option on Police Line Road has a rooftop terrace instead.
Timing & weather
During the wet season, roughly May to September, when the water rises around the trees and boats can slip between the trunks. The catch is access: some low-lying roads out of Sylhet go under water in the same months, so check conditions locally before you set off.
