Dhaka to Cox's Bazar flight guide
Almost everyone on this flight is heading for the sand, and the sums are simple: 67 minutes in the air against 9 to 11 hours by road, or about 8 hours 30 minutes on the overnight train. Cox's Bazar sits at the northern end of a 120 km beach on the Bay of Bengal, and the hotel strip starts a short ride from the runway.
Various carriers share the 311 km hop from Hazrat Shahjalal (DAC). Most departures are on turboprops, though Biman puts a Boeing 737-800 on some rotations.
The airport at the other end is growing up. Cox's Bazar was declared an international airport on 12 October 2025, and its runway now reaches 10,700 ft into the Maheshkhali Channel. Scheduled services are still domestic, so Bangladeshis check in with a National ID card and foreign visitors show a passport.
Come between November and February for dry weather and a calm sea. December sells out first, with Victory Day and the year-end holidays landing in the same few weeks.
Four airlines operate direct flights from Dhaka (DAC) to Cox's Bazar (CXB). The flight takes about 1h 05m.

When to go
November to February is dry, mild and the best time for the beach. The monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain and rough seas.
January: 27°C high, 15°C low. Dry, almost no rain. Winter fog can delay early Dhaka departures.
Monsoon warning: June to September brings the bulk of the year's rain, with about 900 mm in July alone. Lifeguards often restrict swimming, and May and October carry cyclone risk in the Bay of Bengal. Flights keep running, but storms can delay them.
4 airlines fly this route.
Only economy is sold on the ATR 72 flights. Biman's 737-800 carries a small business cabin when it's assigned to Cox's Bazar. Promotional fares can carry a smaller baggage allowance, so check the fare rules before paying.
Aircraft from the airlines' published schedules for the coming weeks; seat counts from the airlines' fleet information. Airlines can swap aircraft at short notice; your booking shows the aircraft for your flight.
Four practical points for this route.
The October rains have cleared by November and the beaches are quieter than in December, the busiest month on the route. If your dates touch Victory Day on 16 December or the new year week, book at least two months ahead.
Some results connect through Saidpur and take 3h 40m to 4h 55m. Turn on “Nonstop only” in the deals above to hide them.
Winter fog at Dhaka, mostly in December and January, can hold early morning departures. In winter, a late morning or midday flight is the safer choice for a tight schedule.
NOVOAIR sells two-night Cox's Bazar packages with return flights, hotel and airport transfers, payable through 24 partner banks. Price the same dates on bookingMentor as a separate flight and hotel first. The package wins when you want one of its partner hotels, such as Sea Pearl Beach Resort or Long Beach Hotel.
Rail reached Cox's Bazar in December 2023. If you have a night or a full day to spare, the train is now a real alternative to flying.

Getting there
Biman is the only one. Most of its rotations use the Dash 8-400, but on some days the airline swaps in a Boeing 737-800, and those flights sell a handful of business seats. US-Bangla, NOVOAIR and Air Astra keep to the ATR 72 turboprop with economy seating only.
For Kolatoli and Sugandha Point, a CNG auto-rickshaw or easy bike from outside arrivals covers the short run in a quarter of an hour or so, and many hotels will send a pickup. Inani is a different trip: it lies 30 km down Marine Drive, so arrange a car with a driver or ask your resort to collect you.
Yes, and plenty of people split the trip that way. The Cox's Bazar Express leaves from Kamalapur in the evening and arrives the next morning, saving a hotel night on the way out. It does not run on Mondays. Booking the flight home separately gives you a quick return at the end of the holiday.
Victory Day on 16 December and the new year week are the biggest crunch. Pohela Boishakh on 14 April brings another rush. March is the quietest month for seats, and Thursday is the heaviest day of the week, so moving your outbound to another day widens the choice.
About 80 km south by road, following Marine Drive past Himchari and Inani for the first stretch. There is no flight further down the coast, so the drive is the only option. Hire a car and driver before you land if you plan to head on the same day.
Timing & weather
Often not. From June to September the surf turns rough and lifeguards regularly close the water or keep bathers near the shoreline. July is the wettest month of all. Travellers who want to swim should plan for the dry months from November through February.
Budget around two hours in total. The car ride from Gulshan or Banani is normally 20 to 40 minutes, and you should be at the domestic terminal an hour to an hour and a half before take-off. US-Bangla stops accepting passengers 20 minutes before departure, so a jam on Airport Road can cost you the flight.
Visa & documents
A Bangladeshi National ID card is enough. Whatever the airport is called, every scheduled service from Dhaka is a domestic flight, so citizens go through the domestic check-in with their NID. Foreign nationals need to show their passport.
General
One piece of up to 7 kg, no larger than 56 × 36 × 23 cm. The overhead bins on a turboprop are small, so a soft bag is easier to stow than a hard suitcase. Checked allowance is 20 kg in standard economy, and Biman gives infants 10 kg. Cheaper promotional fares may come with less.
Not yet. The government named it an international airport in October 2025, then suspended the decision on 24 October after no airline came forward to launch overseas routes. The long runway can take wide-body jets, but for now visitors from abroad connect through Dhaka or another Bangladeshi airport.
May and the early part of October are the danger windows in the Bay of Bengal. A storm warning can close the beach and push flights back. If your holiday falls in those weeks, choose a ticket that allows a date change and keep an eye on the weather bulletins before you leave.
