Bangkok to Kolkata flight guide
Several airlines fly nonstop from Bangkok to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) in Kolkata. Bhutan Airlines, IndiGo, Thai Airways International and Thai VietJet Air leave from Suvarnabhumi (BKK); Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air from Don Mueang (DMK). The 1,636 km flight takes about 2 hours 35 minutes. It links eastern India with Thailand and suits families, patients, traders and travellers heading on to Bhutan or north-east India.
Bhutan Airlines flies between Paro, Kolkata and Bangkok, so it carries passengers on this leg as part of its Bhutan service. Thai Airways International is the other full-service option. IndiGo, which has a base at Kolkata, Thai VietJet Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air are low-cost carriers and charge for checked baggage. SpiceJet starts flying the route on 25 October 2026.
Suvarnabhumi, about 25 km east of the centre, is on the Airport Rail Link. Don Mueang, in the north, is on the SRT Dark Red Line, with bus A2 from Victory Monument for 30 baht. Check the airport code on your ticket.
The airport is at Dum Dum, about 16 km from Dalhousie Square and Howrah station. Its integrated terminal opened in January 2013, and it handled about 21.8 million passengers in 2024–25. Jai Hind metro station, on the Yellow and Orange Lines of the Kolkata Metro, serves the airport. Prepaid taxis and app cabs run to Esplanade, Park Street and Salt Lake; give yourself extra time at evening rush hour.
Most foreign nationals need an Indian visa issued before departure, either an e-Visa or a regular visa depending on nationality and purpose. A transit through Kolkata on separate tickets also needs a visa, because you leave the airport to check in again. Check the rules for your passport on the Government of India's official visa portal.
Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways fly Dhaka to Suvarnabhumi (see Dhaka to Bangkok flights), and four of the Kolkata airlines leave from the same airport. A Don Mueang connection needs at least four hours. Dhaka also has its own flights: see Dhaka to Kolkata flights.
India is 1 hour 30 minutes behind Thailand all year.

General
The clock moves one hour and 30 minutes back from Thai time (Thailand is UTC+7). Neither side uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year.
Yes. Fly Dhaka to Bangkok on Biman, US-Bangla or Thai Airways, all of which land at Suvarnabhumi, then take one of the Kolkata flights. Booking both legs on one Thai Airways ticket, where available, keeps you airside with your bag checked through. Two separate tickets mean clearing Thai immigration, which needs a Thai visa.
Yes. Kolkata to Dhaka is one of the shortest international hops in the region, with several airlines on it, and the road crossing at Petrapole–Benapole is the main land route. Either way you need a valid Indian visa to enter India first.
What's included
It depends on the airline. IndiGo, Thai VietJet Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air are low-cost carriers whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Visa & documents
Most foreign nationals do. Depending on nationality and purpose, that means an e-Visa or a regular visa issued before departure, and a passport valid for at least six months. Check the categories open to your passport on the Government of India's official visa portal.
Cancellations & changes
Yes, if you leave the airport or change between separate tickets, because you pass through Indian immigration to check in again. Check the rules for your passport on the Government of India's official visa portal before booking a connection.
SpiceJet starts 25 October 2026. Airlines publish these changes in advance, but dates can move, so check the schedule before you book.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On IndiGo, Thai VietJet Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
