In short
Krabi is the airport for Ao Nang, Railay and Koh Lanta, and it is about 1 hour 15 minutes from Bangkok by air, a straight-line distance of about 651 km. From Suvarnabhumi (BKK) the route is flown by Thai Airways International, Thai AirAsia, Thai VietJet Air and, outside a winter break, Bangkok Airways. From Don Mueang (DMK) it is Nok Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air.
Bangkok Airways suspends Krabi flights this winter
Bangkok Airways has announced that it will suspend its Bangkok to Krabi flights from 10 December 2026 to 28 February 2027, right through the high season. Its passengers will need to rebook on another carrier for those dates. The other airlines are not affected: Thai Airways alone plans 21 Krabi flights a week this winter, and Thai AirAsia flies the route from Suvarnabhumi again since October 2026 as well as from Don Mueang.
Terminal 1 entry and domestic gates 8 to 14
Krabi International Airport is run by the Department of Airports, not by Airports of Thailand, and it was reorganised in 2025 around a new domestic building. Everyone now enters through Terminal 1, and domestic flights use gates 8 to 14. The airport lies east of Krabi Town, about 15 km from the centre, and 30 to 40 km from Ao Nang.
Getting on to the coast is straightforward. An air-conditioned airport bus goes to Krabi Town and continues to Ao Nang and Noppharat Thara, dropping at most hotels; buy the ticket at the booth in arrivals. Fixed-price taxis are sold at counters in the hall; there are no meter taxis. Railay has no road, so you take the bus or a taxi to Ao Nang and a longtail boat from there, in daylight. Shared minivans run straight to Koh Lanta, car ferry included, in about 2.5 to 3 hours.
Dry season seas and monsoon boat closures
November to April is the dry season on the Andaman coast, with flat water for island trips and the best light on the limestone cliffs. From May to October the southwest monsoon brings rain and swell, and some boat trips stop. Pack for that if you go in the green season, and keep in mind that low-cost fares from Bangkok include only cabin baggage; Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways include a checked bag in standard economy.
A young airport that grew fast
Krabi International Airport opened in 1999 and sits about 7 km east of downtown Krabi. By 2023 it handled 2.3 million passengers, which made it the sixth busiest airport in Thailand, a sign of how much Andaman beach traffic now bypasses Phuket.
