Flying from Karachi to Dhaka

In short

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the only airline flying nonstop from Jinnah International Airport in Karachi (KHI) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC). The service returned in January 2026 after a long gap, and a Boeing 737-800 covers the 2,354 km in about 3 hours 19 minutes. Families visiting relatives, business travellers and students make up most of the cabin.

BG342's 162 seats go fast, so book ahead

BG342 runs twice a week. The 737-800 is a single-aisle jet with 162 seats, and with one airline offering a nonstop those seats are the whole supply. Families planning around weddings or school holidays should book well ahead.

Economy includes 30 kg of checked baggage and 7 kg in the cabin, enough for the gifts most visitors carry for relatives.

East Satellite Concourse for international flights

International departures use the Jinnah Terminal's East Satellite Concourse; the West Satellite Concourse handles domestic flights. Terminal 2 is kept for Hajj flights and Terminal 1 houses Civil Aviation Authority offices, so neither is where you check in. Drivers reach the terminal from Shahrah-e-Faisal, and the seven-sided car park beside it holds more than 3,000 vehicles. The road takes longer than the parking, so leave home with time in hand.

There is no train to the door. Karachi Airport commuter station lies about 2 km south-west of the terminal, and the nearest mainline station is Karachi Cantonment. With 30 kg of luggage, a taxi, ride-hailing car or a relative's car is far simpler.

The upgraded runway came back into use on 19 February 2026. Jinnah International has two parallel concrete runways, of 3,400 m and 3,200 m.

Why Dhaka is an hour ahead of Karachi

Dhaka is an hour ahead of Karachi all year. Pakistan stays on UTC+5 and Bangladesh on UTC+6, and neither has used summer time since 2009. The split dates back to 1951, when East Pakistan, today's Bangladesh, was put on UTC+6 while the west kept UTC+5.

Pakistani passports need a visa in advance

Pakistani passport holders need a Bangladesh visa issued before travel, and the passport should be valid for at least six months. The airline checks this at the counter in Karachi.

Taxi kiosk, apps and the railway station opposite

Hazrat Shahjalal is in Kurmitola, roughly 17 km north of central Dhaka. Taxis can be booked at the kiosk inside arrivals, ride-hailing apps work, and Airport Railway Station stands across the main road. Terminal 3 had a partial inauguration on 7 October 2023 and stands beside the old building awaiting a soft opening on 16 December 2026, with full operations expected in March or April 2027. When it opens fully, capacity rises from 8 million to 24 million passengers a year.

Ask your driver to take the raised toll expressway from Kawla. Its first 11.5 km has reached Farmgate since September 2023, with a Karwan Bazar ramp since March 2024, which skips the crawl through Banani and Mohakhali. BRTC has also run a bus along it between the airport and Farmgate since 18 September 2023, fine for a backpack but awkward with gift-laden suitcases.

For Chattogram, Sylhet or Cox's Bazar, domestic flights leave from the single-storey terminal to the left of the international buildings. Clear immigration and customs, collect your bags, then check in again.
