Flying from Kuwait to Dhaka

In short

Various airlines fly nonstop from Kuwait International Airport (KWI) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC): Kuwait Airways, Jazeera Airways and Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The 4,241 km flight takes about 5 hours 50 minutes, and most seats go to Bangladeshi workers heading home on leave, often with a hold full of gifts.

Kuwait Airways, Biman or Jazeera by baggage

Kuwait Airways and Biman both fly the Boeing 777-300ER and include 30 kg of checked baggage. Jazeera Airways flies the Airbus A320neo and includes 20 kg. All of them allow 7 kg in the cabin. Kuwait Airways has the most departures, about nine a week on KU283 and KU285; Jazeera has about seven and Biman two.

On a flight of almost six hours, many people prefer a wide-body. Biman's 777-300ER has 419 seats and Kuwait Airways' typically around 360, against about 180 on Jazeera's single-aisle A320neo.

Terminal changes at Kuwait airport this year

The airport is about 15.5 km south of the city centre in Farwaniya Governorate. Confirm your terminal a day before flying, because the arrangement has shifted this year.

Terminal 1 reopened on 1 June 2026 but closed again the next day after damage. Many airlines that used it have moved, and Kuwait Airways' Terminal 4, built for 4.5 million passengers a year, now handles others too. Jazeera has its own Terminal 5, opened on 22 May 2018 and joined to the main building; tell anyone dropping you off it is the Jazeera terminal. The new Foster-designed Terminal 2 is targeted for the last quarter of 2026, a date that has moved before, so do not assume your flight will use it until the airline says so.

Telling family when to leave for the airport

Bangladesh is three hours ahead of Kuwait. Kuwait keeps UTC+3 and Bangladesh UTC+6, and neither changes for summer. Add three hours plus the flight length to the departure time when telling family when to leave for the airport.

Gulf arrivals bunching at Shahjalal

Several Gulf flights often land close together, so give immigration and the baggage belts time. Terminal 3 opened in a first stage on 7 October 2023 and is due for a soft opening on 16 December 2026, with full operations expected in March or April 2027, so you may well arrive through the older halls. When fully working, the airport can handle 24 million passengers a year against 8 million now.

Kurmitola, where the airport sits, is about 17 km from central Dhaka. Airport Railway Station across the road has trains toward Kamalapur and beyond, useful if family lives outside the capital. The raised toll expressway from Kawla reaches Farmgate after 11.5 km, with a Karwan Bazar ramp since March 2024; the phase towards Moghbazar and Kutubkhali is still being built, so trips to the south finish on ordinary roads.

BRTC has run a cheap bus on the expressway between the airport and Farmgate since 18 September 2023, but with 30 kg of luggage most workers find a car or a relative waiting outside easier.

For a domestic flight onward, the single-storey domestic terminal sits to the left of the international buildings, home to Biman, US-Bangla, Novoair and Air Astra. Collect bags and clear customs first, and leave a good gap in case several Gulf flights land at once.
