Manchester to Dhaka flight guide
Biman Bangladesh Airlines flies from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) with one stop at Osmani International in Sylhet. Its Boeing 787-8 covers the 8,074 km in about 11 hours 30 minutes, and it is the only through flight, used by Bangladeshi families in Oldham and across the North West to avoid changing planes in Dubai or Doha.
BG208 runs twice a week. Many passengers leave the aircraft at Sylhet, since Sylhet Division is where most British Bangladeshi families come from. Stay on board for Dhaka and the second leg is short. The checked allowance is 46 kg with 7 kg in the cabin, and it goes quickly once the suitcases of presents are packed.
The airport is about 11 km south-west of the city centre, just off the M56. Its railway station sits between Terminals 2 and 3, about five minutes' walk from Terminal 3 and ten from Terminal 2, linked by lifts and moving walkways. Trains to Manchester Piccadilly take around 20 minutes and run every 10 minutes, seven days a week, from 04:12 to 01:34. The Metrolink airport line, open since 2014, suits anyone coming from south Manchester.
Check your terminal on the booking or the airport's departures page. Most of Terminal 1 shut in November 2025 and its old entrance became part of Terminal 3 in March 2026, leaving Terminals 2 and 3 for passengers.
British passport holders of Bangladeshi origin usually travel on a Bangladesh visa or a No Visa Required endorsement; sort it out before school holidays, when the High Commission is busiest. A British spouse of a Bangladeshi citizen also qualifies for the NVR. Otherwise, British citizens can get a single-entry visa on arrival for up to 30 days, paid in cash at 51 US dollars or euros.
Bangladesh is six hours ahead in the UK winter and five while British Summer Time runs, which in 2026 was 29 March to 25 October. Only the British side moves.
December and January see barely any rain in Dhaka and line up with the Christmas break, so book early. About 87% of the year's rain falls from May to October, with July the heaviest at around 391 mm. January averages 19 °C, with nights near 13.3 °C, so keep a light jumper in the hand luggage; by April, daytime highs average 33.9 °C.
Passengers still use the older terminal, and Terminal 3 is not due to soft-open until 16 December 2026, with full operations expected in March or April 2027, so family should wait at the existing arrivals hall. Uber and Pathao pick up there, and the prepaid taxi kiosk outside the exit fixes the fare before you set off. Uttara is the nearest neighbourhood; Gulshan and Banani are a drive south.
The Dhaka Elevated Expressway has a southbound ramp at Kawla and an exit for Banani onto Kemal Ataturk Avenue, avoiding the slowest stretch of Airport Road for a toll. MRT Line 6 starts at Uttara North, a short ride from the airport, and runs to Motijheel, handy for light travellers but not with 46 kg of cases.

Getting there
Yes. Trains stop at Manchester Airport station inside The Station complex, and a covered skylink walkway leads to the terminals. The Metrolink airport line, open since 2014, suits anyone coming from south Manchester. By car the airport sits about 11 km south-west of the centre, just off the M56.
Not by Manchester standards, but evenings are cooler than many expect. January averages 19 °C, with nights dropping to about 13.3 °C, so a light jumper is worth keeping in the hand luggage. By April, daytime highs average 33.9 °C.
Ask your driver to take the Dhaka Elevated Expressway. The southbound ramp is at Kawla, close to the airport, and there is an exit for Banani onto Kemal Ataturk Avenue. It costs a toll but avoids the slowest stretch of the ground road.
Not as of the latest reports. The building has been partly inaugurated for some time, but passengers still use the older terminal, and an April 2026 report pointed to opening by 16 December or early 2027. Family meeting you should wait at the existing arrivals hall.
Use the prepaid taxi kiosk outside the international arrivals exit, where the fare is fixed before you set off. It avoids negotiating with drivers after a long overnight journey, and the receipt shows the agreed price.
Cancellations & changes
It might. Most of Terminal 1 shut in November 2025 and its old entrance became part of Terminal 3 in March 2026, leaving Terminals 2 and 3 for passengers. Look at your Biman booking or the airport's departures page for the terminal rather than going on memory from earlier trips.
Families & accessibility
Six hours during the UK winter and five while British Summer Time runs, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. In 2026 that window is 29 March to 25 October. Bangladesh never moves its clocks, so only the British side shifts.
He has two routes. As the spouse of a Bangladeshi citizen he qualifies for the No Visa Required endorsement, which avoids visa paperwork on every trip. Otherwise, British citizens can get a single-entry visa on arrival for up to 30 days, paid in cash at 51 US dollars or euros.
December and January, which see barely any rain. The wet months run from May to October, when about 87% of the year's rainfall arrives, and July is the heaviest at around 391 mm. Winter also lines up with the Christmas school break, so book early.
General
Not from the terminal itself. MRT Line 6 starts at Uttara North, a short ride from the airport, and runs south through Agargaon, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar and Shahbag to Motijheel. It suits light travellers; with 46 kg of suitcases a car is far easier.
