Narathiwat to Bangkok flight guide
Flying from Narathiwat to Bangkok is simple: Thai AirAsia is the only airline and it lands at Don Mueang (DMK). The flight covers about 832 km and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. Nothing flies from Narathiwat to Suvarnabhumi or to any other city, so anyone heading elsewhere connects in Bangkok.
Narathiwat Airport sits on Route 4136, about 13 km north of town, so allow 20 to 30 minutes by road. The terminal opens for the morning departure and closes in the early evening, roughly 06:00 to 18:00. Arrive about 90 minutes before departure; the building is small enough to cross in a couple of minutes, but Thai AirAsia closes check-in shortly before the flight. There is no lounge and food is minimal, so eat in town first. If you drive yourself, overnight parking in lots 3 and 4 is free once you register your vehicle with ID at the desk in front of the terminal. The Narathiwat Airport guide lists the facilities, including the prayer rooms.
Thai AirAsia's basic fares cover a cabin bag. Add checked luggage when you book, especially if you are carrying gifts from the south.
Domestic flights arrive at Terminal 2. Don Mueang is about 24 km north of central Bangkok, and the SRT Red Line station across the footbridge is the most predictable way into town in rush hour, reaching Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in around 20 minutes. Airport buses A1 to A4 run to Mo Chit, Victory Monument, Pratunam and Khao San Road, and the public taxi rank is outside Gate 8 in Terminal 1. Details are in our Don Mueang airport guide.
Flying on abroad? Thai AirAsia and other low-cost airlines leave Don Mueang's Terminal 1 for much of Asia. For other international airlines, take the free inter-airport bus to Suvarnabhumi, which needs an hour or more. On separate tickets you collect your bags and check in again, so allow at least three hours.
Narathiwat has no scheduled international flights, so even a trip to Malaysia means either connecting through Bangkok or travelling overland to Hat Yai.
Check your boarding pass for NAW, the IATA code of Narathiwat Airport (ICAO VTSC). The runway is around 2,500 m, long enough for aircraft up to the Airbus A300-600, and the airport has been in service since 1974.
We check practical details such as entry rules, seasons and costs against official government and tourism sources.
