Bangkok to Narathiwat flight guide
Thai AirAsia is the only airline between Bangkok and Narathiwat, and it flies from Don Mueang (DMK). The route covers about 832 km, nearly the full length of the Thai peninsula, and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. There is no service from Suvarnabhumi: Thai AirAsia brought some routes back to that airport in October 2026, but Narathiwat was not among them.
Read the travel advice before you book. Narathiwat is one of the three southern border provinces where the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises against all but essential travel, and other governments carry similar warnings. Flights operate normally, but make sure your travel insurance covers the province.
Domestic flights at Don Mueang use Terminal 2. If you arrive in Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi, the free inter-airport bus for connecting passengers takes an hour or more, so leave three to four hours between flights. The Don Mueang airport guide explains check-in and the routes to the airport.
Thai AirAsia's basic fares include a cabin bag. Checked luggage is extra and cheaper when bought online in advance, and the airline is strict about cut-off times at bag drop.
Narathiwat Airport is a small terminal on Route 4136, about 13 km north of town, beside the Thaksin Ratchaniwet royal palace. It belongs to the Royal Thai Navy and keeps daytime hours, roughly 06:00 to 18:00. Grey minibuses meet each flight and run to Narathiwat town, then on to the Tak Bai border checkpoint and Sungai Kolok. A few taxis and private drivers also wait, with no meters, so agree the fare before you get in. Don't count on an ATM at the terminal; carry baht in cash. Our Narathiwat Airport guide has the details.
There are no hotels at the airport; everything is in town, 20 to 30 minutes away. The southern east coast takes its heaviest rain at the end of the year, so February to April is usually the most settled time to travel.
Narathiwat Airport (IATA NAW, ICAO VTSC) was built in 1974, at the same time as the Thaksin Rajaniwet Palace, the royal residence in the province. Its runway of about 2,500 m takes aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A300-600.
We check practical details such as entry rules, seasons and costs against official government and tourism sources.
Thai AirAsia flies nonstop from Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK) to Narathiwat (NAW), the only airline on the route. The 832 km flight takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.
