Pattaya to Koh Samui flight guide
The nonstop from Pattaya to Koh Samui leaves from U-Tapao (UTP), about 40 km south of the city, and lands at Samui (USM) roughly 1 hour 10 minutes later. Bangkok Airways is the only airline on the route, a flight of about 363 km down the Gulf of Thailand.
Bangkok Airways flew U-Tapao to Samui through mid-2026, but its full winter 2026/27 schedule had not been published when we checked. Search your dates before booking hotels on the island.
Allow 40 minutes to an hour by road from central Pattaya, a little less from Jomtien. The scheduled minibus picks up from Pattaya hotels a few times a day but must be booked at least a day in advance; otherwise use a taxi or a pre-booked car. The airport lies off Sukhumvit Road between Sattahip and Ban Chang. Two hours before departure is plenty at this quiet airport, and Bangkok Airways closes check-in 40 minutes before the flight.
Bangkok Airways includes a checked bag in standard economy. That suits families heading for a week on Samui with beach gear, since there is no bag fee to add on a standard fare.
Samui International Airport is a garden of thatched, open-sided pavilions built by Bangkok Airways, which still owns and runs it. The runway is only 2,100 m long, which is why you only see narrow-body jets and turboprops here. The airport is in Bo Phut, about 2 km from the northern end of Chaweng; Lamai and the south coast take longer to reach. Taxis are booked at a counter in arrivals at fixed zone prices, not by meter, and shared minibuses drop at hotels along the way. For Koh Phangan, boats from Big Buddha Pier are a few minutes from the terminal.
Samui's driest stretch is usually January to August, while October to December brings the north-east monsoon's heavy rain. That is close to the reverse of the pattern in Pattaya, which is wettest from May to October, so a winter escape from the coast to Samui works best after the New Year.
Bangkok Airways has announced two suspensions for the winter 2026/27 season, which runs from 25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027: Koh Samui to Singapore and Bangkok to Malé. U-Tapao to Samui was not on that list, so the eastern-seaboard link is expected to keep flying through the island's dry months. Seat numbers on this route are small, and fares on the days around Christmas and Songkran go first, so book the U-Tapao leg before you lock in a villa.

Three tips for the flight down the Gulf.
The scheduled minibus to U-Tapao only collects if booked the day before. Otherwise arrange a taxi or car.
Samui's rainy season comes later than Pattaya's. From January the island is usually dry and sunny.
Samui taxis use fixed zone prices sold at the arrivals counter. Confirm the price before you leave the counter.
Most visitors stay in Chaweng, Bophut or Lamai, with Bophut and Chaweng the closest to the airport.
