US-Bangla's ATR 72-600 leaves every day at 11:20 (BS162) and 17:20 (BS166). Biman's Dash 8-400 operates BG484 at 19:20 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Both airlines include 20 kg of checked baggage, enough for a box of Rajshahi mangoes in season.
Shah Makhdum Airport is roughly 10 km north of the city. Coming from Shaheb Bazar or the university side, allow for traffic on the way out. The terminal is small and check-in is quick.
You land at Hazrat Shahjalal in Kurmitola, where domestic and international flights use separate terminals. If this flight is the first leg of a trip abroad, book both on one ticket where you can so your bags are checked through, or leave a generous gap between the two. The midday US-Bangla flight leaves the widest margin for an evening international departure.

It is the best rail option. Banalata Express is billed as the only non-stop train between Rajshahi and Dhaka, and other intercity trains serve the pair with stops. The train takes several hours, but it leaves from the city centre and has no baggage limit to speak of. Buy seats early before Eid, when the trains sell out.
For Gulshan, Banani or Uttara, a taxi or app car is simplest. Travelling further south, ask the driver to use the Dhaka Elevated Expressway toward Farmgate to skip Airport Road. Airport railway station, opposite the terminals, is another option if you are heading on by train.
The building is compact, so security and check-in move quickly, but the counters still close a fixed time before departure. Check the cut-off on your booking and arrive a little ahead of it. Have your ID card or passport in hand, as it is checked against the ticket at the door.
Often not. The lockers on the ATR and the Dash 8 are shallower than on a jet, so a roller that fits on an Airbus may be taken from you at the aircraft steps and put in the hold. A soft bag within the 7 kg cabin limit avoids that, and both airlines include 20 kg of checked luggage anyway.
Getting there
The airport is at Nowhata on the northern side of town. A CNG auto-rickshaw or a hired car is the usual way out, and the drive is short once you are clear of the central streets. Leave a margin in the morning and around the university, where rickshaw traffic slows everything down.

Yes. Airport railway station faces Hazrat Shahjalal across Airport Road, and trains serving Rajshahi stop there, as do services to Sylhet, Chattogram and Cumilla. Flying one way and taking the train back is a practical mix if flights are full or you want to carry more than 20 kg.
Uttara is the area immediately north of the airport, on the opposite side from the main city. Staying there the night before keeps the morning drive short and avoids the risk of the cross-city traffic making you late for your onward flight.
Timing & weather
You arrive at the domestic terminal and must walk across to the international building, then queue for check-in, security and emigration. On a separate ticket you will also collect your bag and re-check it. Plan the connection so you reach the international hall with plenty of time, because missing the long-haul flight is costly.
