Rome to Dhaka flight guide
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the only airline flying nonstop from Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC). Its Boeing 787-9 covers the 7,321 km in about 8 hours 40 minutes, more than an hour quicker than the trip out. The cabin fills with Bangladeshis who live and work in Italy going home to family.
The 787-9 seats 298, and with no second airline on the route there is no fallback when it fills, so book early if your dates are fixed around a family event. Biman allows 46 kg of checked baggage and 7 kg in the cabin, and that allowance tends to get used to the last kilo.
From Roma Termini, the Leonardo Express runs nonstop to the airport in 32 minutes. With a full 46 kg, a taxi or booked transfer over the 30 km by road is easier than lifting cases on and off a train. Dhaka flights leave from the non-Schengen part of Terminal 3, which includes the satellite with the E gates, so leave time for exit passport control before the gate.
Bangladeshi passport holders show the passport. If you now travel on an Italian passport, a No Visa Required (NVR) endorsement from a Bangladesh mission lets you enter without a visa; anyone else should check Bangladesh's visa rules before flying. Dhaka is four hours ahead of Rome from late March to late October and five hours ahead in winter.
Hazrat Shahjalal is at Kurmitola, roughly 17 km north of the centre. The new Terminal 3, inaugurated on 7 October 2023, is due for a soft opening to passengers on 16 December 2026, with full operations expected in March or April 2027; until then most long-haul arrivals use the older terminals. The toll expressway on stilts from Kawla, beside the airport, to Farmgate has run since 2023, with exits at Banani and a Karwan Bazar ramp since March 2024, and it skips much of the Banani and Mohakhali traffic. BRTC buses use it too.
For onward travel, the domestic terminal stands to the left of the international buildings, and Airport Railway Station is directly outside the airport for Bangladesh Railway trains.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines operates direct flights from Rome (FCO) to Dhaka (DAC). The flight takes about 8h 40m.

Getting there
The Leonardo Express. Trenitalia runs it nonstop between Termini and the station inside the airport, covering 37 km in 32 minutes. With a full 46 kg of luggage, a taxi or booked transfer over the 30 km by road is less of a struggle than lifting cases on and off a train.
Dhaka departures go from the non-Schengen part of Terminal 3, which includes the satellite building with the E gates. After check-in you pass exit passport control before you reach the satellite. The E area is large, so look at the board for your gate before you settle in a café.
FCO. That code covers Rome's main airport, officially named Leonardo da Vinci. It lies in the coastal town of Fiumicino, 30 km from the city, and it is where Biman's Bangladesh service departs.
The raised toll road starts at Kawla beside the airport, and the open section runs 11.5 km to Farmgate, with exits at Banani and a ramp at Karwan Bazar added in March 2024. It is being extended towards Kutubkhali near Jatrabari, on the Dhaka to Chittagong highway.
Yes. The state bus company BRTC has run a service along the Airport to Farmgate section since 18 September 2023. It is a cheap option if you travel light, but few people stepping off a Rome flight with two full suitcases will want it. For heavy bags a private car or app taxi is easier.
Yes. Airport Railway Station stands directly outside the airport, so anyone continuing by Bangladesh Railway can walk or take a short ride to the platform without crossing the city first. Buy the onward ticket before you fly and leave a generous gap after landing for immigration and the baggage belt.
Timing & weather
It depends on the season. Italy moves its clocks forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October, while Bangladesh stays on UTC+6 all year. From late March to late October Dhaka is four hours ahead of Rome; in the winter months the gap is five hours.
General
Only in part. It was inaugurated on 7 October 2023 but is still being finished, so most long-haul arrivals continue to use the older terminals. When it is fully working, the airport can handle 24 million passengers a year, up from 8 million, which should shorten the immigration and baggage queues.
Yes, from the domestic terminal at the same airport. It is a single-storey building to the left of the international terminals. Collect your bags, clear customs and then check in again for the domestic flight, allowing a comfortable gap in case immigration is slow after a busy arrival bank.
Biman's Boeing 787-9 seats 298 people. That is a lot of seats, but with no second airline on the route there is no fallback when it fills. If your dates are fixed around a family event, book early.
