Flying from Dhaka to Rome

In short

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the only airline flying nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO). The Boeing 787-9 covers the 7,321 km in about 10 hours, and the route exists largely for the Bangladeshi community in Italy, about 200,000 people in 2023.

Biman's return to Rome

Biman brought the Rome service back in March 2024 after a nine-year break. The 787-9 has 30 business seats, 21 in premium economy and 247 in economy, and the premium economy cabin is worth pricing for older relatives on a flight of ten hours. The checked allowance is 46 kg, with 7 kg in the cabin, which suits anyone moving out to work or study. The same aircraft continues from Rome to Toronto, so some passengers on board are flying on to Canada.

Bangladeshi communities in Rome and beyond

Many passengers are heading to relatives in Lazio. Tor Pignattara in eastern Rome, which residents call Banglatown, has Bangladeshi-run shops along its main streets, and further communities live in Lombardy, Veneto and Sicily. Bangladeshis have been settling in Rome since the 1980s.

Schengen visa or residence permit for Italy

Italy is in the Schengen area. Travellers who are not EU citizens or Schengen visa-exempt need an Italian visa or Italian residence permit before Biman will board them, plus a passport valid for at least six months. Bangladeshi citizens fall in that group. Check the rules for your passport with the Italian consulate or the Italian foreign ministry's visa site.

Leonardo Express from Fiumicino to Termini

Fiumicino is on the coast, about 30 km from the city. The Leonardo Express runs nonstop to Roma Termini in roughly 32 minutes, where you can change for the metro or regional trains. Rome's second airport, Ciampino, handles low-cost and charter flights only, so anyone meeting you should head to FCO. Italy moves to summer time from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, when Rome is four hours behind Dhaka; in winter the gap is five hours.
