Toronto to Dhaka flight guide
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the only airline with a through service from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC). Its Boeing 787-9 stops once in Rome and covers 12,438 km in about 18 hours 25 minutes. Toronto's Bangladeshi community uses it to fly home without changing planes.
BG306 runs three times a week. The same aircraft carries on to Dhaka after Rome, so there is no change of plane; follow the crew's instructions during the stop, which may mean staying seated or stepping off briefly, and keep your passport within reach. Flying east with the prevailing winds, the trip is well under the westbound time.
Rome was not the first idea. While the service was being planned, Manchester and later Istanbul were considered as intermediate points. Fiumicino now lists Biman with Dhaka as its destination.
The 787-9 is the type on which Biman introduced premium economy: 21 seats between a 30-seat business cabin and 247 economy seats, 298 in total. Business is laid out one, two, one, so every seat has aisle access; economy runs three, three, three.
The UP Express runs from Union Station to Pearson in 28 minutes, calling at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston, and leaves every 15 minutes. From Scarborough or the east end, take the subway to Union for it, or ride Line 2 west to Kipling and board the TTC 900 Airport Express bus. With heavy suitcases, UP Express is easier.
Pearson has two passenger terminals, 1 and 3. The UP Express stops at Terminal 1, and the free Terminal Link train runs around the clock between Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Viscount station, so check your terminal before setting out.
Only Canada moves its clocks. While Toronto is on daylight time, from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, Dhaka is 10 hours ahead; in winter the gap is 11 hours. With the long journey, you usually land a calendar day later.
A Canadian passport alone does not give free entry. Dual nationals can ask a Bangladeshi mission in Canada for a No Visa Required sticker, valid for unlimited entries for the life of that passport, and foreign spouses and children of Bangladeshi citizens qualify too. Canadians without Bangladeshi roots are on the visa-on-arrival list for tourism, business or investment, single entry up to 30 days at the officer's discretion; carry a return ticket and proof of accommodation. Work, study or volunteering needs a visa before leaving Canada.
Long-haul arrivals come out on the ground floor of the international building in Kurmitola, where a prepaid taxi counter stands near the exit; Uber, Pathao, Obhai and Shohoz also operate. If family are in Uttara or Gazipur, north of the airport, staying near them avoids the worst traffic. For a city base, Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara are popular with visitors from abroad.

Yes. Long-haul arrivals come out on the ground floor of the international building, and a prepaid taxi counter stands near the exit, so the fare is settled before you get in. Uber, Pathao, Obhai and Shohoz also operate at the airport if you prefer to book on your phone.
Not at first. While the Toronto service was being planned, Manchester and later Istanbul were considered as intermediate points. Rome is the stop on the current routing, and Fiumicino also lists Biman with Dhaka as its destination.
General
The allowance on this sector is 46 kg in the hold plus 7 kg in the cabin, noticeably more than Biman gives on its shorter Asian and Gulf routes. Check how your ticket splits the 46 kg across pieces, and confirm what an infant may carry before you pack the extra suitcase.
Pearson has two passenger terminals, 1 and 3. Your booking or the airport's departures board will name the one for your flight. If you arrive at the wrong one, the free Terminal Link train runs around the clock between Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Viscount station, the stop for the outer car parks.
The gap changes with the season because only Canada moves its clocks. While Toronto is on daylight time, from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, Dhaka is 10 hours ahead; in winter the difference is 11 hours. Add the long journey and you usually land a calendar day later.
If family are in Uttara or Gazipur, north of the airport, staying near them avoids the worst traffic. For a city base with hotels and restaurants close by, Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara are popular with visitors from abroad, and they sit between the airport and the older districts to the south.
Visa & documents
A Canadian passport alone does not give free entry. Dual nationals can ask a Bangladeshi mission in Canada for a No Visa Required (NVR) sticker, which allows unlimited entries for the life of that passport. Foreign spouses and children of Bangladeshi citizens qualify for it as well, so families can travel on the same footing.
Canada is on Bangladesh's visa-on-arrival list for tourism, business or investment, with a single entry of up to 30 days. Approval is at the immigration officer's discretion, so carry a return ticket and proof of where you are staying. If you are going to work, study or volunteer, get the visa before leaving Canada.
