Chumphon to Bangkok flight guide
Both airlines fly from Chumphon to Bangkok, and both land at Don Mueang (DMK). The flight covers about 381 km and takes about 55 minutes, which makes Chumphon the quickest way back to the capital from Koh Tao.
Lomprayah's catamaran crosses from Koh Tao to its pier at Thung Makham Noi, south of Chumphon, in under two hours, and its coach continues to the airport in about an hour. Buy the joint ticket on the island or online, and choose a flight with a comfortable gap after the coach's arrival; sea conditions can slow the crossing, especially from October to December. The same ticket works from Koh Phangan and Koh Samui, with a longer boat ride.
The terminal is small and sits in Pathio district, about 35 km north of town, so allow 30 to 45 minutes by road if you are coming from Chumphon itself. There is no public bus; take a taxi, Grab or a pre-booked car. About 90 minutes before departure is enough, since low-cost airlines close bag drop 45 to 60 minutes before the flight. Inside you will find a café, a small shop, an ATM and a coffee and gift shop near the gates, but nothing more substantial, so eat beforehand. Rental cars can be returned to the two counters in the terminal. Read the Chumphon Airport guide for more.
Domestic arrivals use Terminal 2. Don Mueang is about 24 km north of central Bangkok; the SRT Red Line station across the footbridge reaches Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in about 20 minutes, and airport buses A1 to A4 go to Mo Chit, Victory Monument, Pratunam and Khao San Road. The public taxi rank is outside Gate 8 in Terminal 1. See the Don Mueang airport guide for details.
Flying home from Suvarnabhumi? Take the free inter-airport bus, available with an onward ticket, and leave three to four hours between flights.
Both airlines sell basic fares with a cabin bag only. Wet dive gear and souvenirs add up, so buy checked baggage before you leave the island.
The airport sits 35 km north of downtown Chumphon, and further still from the piers, so the transfer is the part that needs planning. Scheduled flights returned in 2008 after the airport had been closed for nine years.
We check practical details such as entry rules, seasons and costs against official government and tourism sources.
Both airlines fly nonstop from Chumphon (CJM) to Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK). The 381 km flight takes about 55 minutes.

Three tips for getting off the island and home.
The catamaran plus coach takes about three hours. Book a flight that leaves time for a slow crossing.
Chumphon's terminal has only light snacks. Have a meal in town or on the island first.
If your flight home leaves from Suvarnabhumi, use the free inter-airport bus and allow plenty of time.
Train and bus both take most of a day to Bangkok. From Koh Tao, the boat and flight combination is far faster.
