Istanbul to Dhaka flight guide
Turkish Airlines is the only airline flying nonstop from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC). Its Airbus A330-300 covers 5,962 km in about 7 hours 25 minutes, and the flight carries Bangladeshis returning from Europe and North America on the last leg home, along with Turkish business travellers and tourists.
Most people on the Dhaka flight did not begin their journey in Istanbul. Turkish Airlines runs its global hub at Istanbul Airport, so London, Paris, New York and Toronto feed straight into the two Dhaka departures, TK712 and TK742. A single through ticket keeps the bag checked to Dhaka and protects you if the first flight runs late.
The allowance on this sector is 30 kg in the hold and 7 kg in the cabin. Where an earlier flight on the same ticket came with a different allowance, ask Turkish Airlines which figure applies to the whole journey before you pack, since the strictest sector usually sets the limit.
The Airbus A330-300 is a twin-aisle jet that typically seats about 290 people, a sensible size for a sector of well over seven hours. Seat maps for your date appear in the Turkish Airlines app, and choosing early is the way to keep a family together on a full flight in the school holidays.
Istanbul Airport sits at Arnavutköy, far from the old town on the European side. The rail route is the M2 metro to Gayrettepe, then the M11, which covers 37.5 km and nine stations to the airport at up to 120 km/h. Get off at the airport stop; the cargo terminal station comes after it.
Travellers staying in the western districts have a second option. The western branch of the M11 opened on 20 June 2026 and links Halkalı with the airport through Kayaşehir and Arnavutköy, which saves riding into the city first.
Every scheduled passenger flight left Atatürk Airport on 6 April 2019, a few months after the new airport's opening ceremony on 29 October 2018. Atatürk lies about 35 km away, so make sure a taxi driver knows you want İstanbul Havalimanı.
Inside, allow plenty of time. The first-stage terminal covers 1,440,000 square metres and was built for 90 million passengers a year, and the walk from check-in through passport control to a far gate can take a long while.
Dhaka is three hours ahead of Istanbul in every month. Turkey stopped changing its clocks in 2016 and fixed UTC+3 permanently in 2018, and Bangladesh has stayed on UTC+6 since 2009, so the pickup time you give family never shifts with the season.
Hazrat Shahjalal stands in Kurmitola on the northern edge of the city. Terminal 3 opened in part on 7 October 2023 and is set for a soft opening on 16 December 2026, with full operations expected in March or April 2027; when complete it will lift the airport's capacity from 8 million to 24 million passengers a year. Until then, arrivals use the older halls.
For the drive south, the toll expressway from Kawla runs 11.5 km to Farmgate, with a ramp at Karwan Bazar open since 20 March 2024. Work continues towards Moghbazar and Kutubkhali, so trips to Motijheel finish on surface streets. A BRTC bus has used the expressway between the airport and Farmgate since 18 September 2023, though most people arriving with 30 kg prefer a car. Airport Railway Station, right outside, has intercity trains for anyone heading straight to another district.
Family in Chattogram, Sylhet or Cox's Bazar is a short domestic hop away. Domestic flights leave from the separate domestic terminal at the same airport, where Biman, US-Bangla, Novoair and Air Astra are based. Collect your bags and clear customs first, then check in again for the onward flight.
Turkish Airlines operates direct flights from Istanbul (IST) to Dhaka (DAC). The flight takes about 7h 25m.

Getting there
Change from the M2 at Gayrettepe onto the M11, which covers 37.5 km and nine stations to the airport at speeds of up to 120 km/h. It avoids the uncertainty of the long road journey out to Arnavutköy. Get off at the airport stop, not the cargo terminal station that follows it.
Yes. The western branch of the M11 was completed on 20 June 2026, linking Halkalı with the airport through Kayaşehir and Arnavutköy. If you are staying in the western districts, that saves going all the way into the city to start from Gayrettepe.
No. All scheduled passenger flights moved to the new Istanbul Airport on 6 April 2019, a few months after its opening ceremony on 29 October 2018. Atatürk lies about 35 km away, so a taxi driver taking you to the old airport could cost you the flight. Say "İstanbul Havalimanı" to be safe.
It is a twin-aisle jet that typically seats about 290 people, a sensible size for a sector of well over seven hours. Seat selection on the Turkish app shows the layout for your date.
It opened only in part on 7 October 2023 and is still under construction, so check on arrival which hall you are directed to. When finished it will raise the airport's capacity from 8 million to 24 million passengers a year.
Use the toll expressway from Kawla. The open part runs 11.5 km to Farmgate, and a ramp at Karwan Bazar has been open since 20 March 2024. Work continues south towards Moghbazar and eventually Kutubkhali, so for Motijheel you finish the journey on surface streets for now.
Yes, a BRTC route between the airport and Farmgate has run on the expressway since 18 September 2023. It suits someone travelling with cabin bags only. After a long trip from Europe or North America with 30 kg in the hold, most people prefer a car.
Yes. The station is right outside the airport, so intercity trains can be boarded without first heading into central Dhaka. Book the rail ticket before you leave Istanbul and leave several hours of margin for immigration and bags.
What's included
Plenty. The first-stage terminal alone covers 1,440,000 square metres and is built to handle 90 million passengers a year. Walking from check-in through passport control to a far gate can take a long while, so arrive well before the counters close, especially if you are checking in rather than connecting airside.
Cancellations & changes
No. Turkey stopped changing its clocks in September 2016 and made year-round UTC+3 permanent in 2018, and Bangladesh has not used summer time since 2009. The three-hour gap therefore holds in every month, which makes planning a pickup in Dhaka simple.
