Dhaka to Istanbul flight guide
Turkish Airlines is the only airline flying nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Istanbul Airport (IST). Its Airbus A330-300 covers the 5,962 km in about 8 hours 45 minutes. For many passengers Istanbul is a connection point: Turkish flies to 131 countries, more than any other airline, and the Dhaka flight feeds that network.
The A330-300 is a twin-aisle aircraft, and the allowance on this route is 30 kg checked with 7 kg in the cabin. Turkish Airlines dates from 1933 and has been in Star Alliance since April 2008, so you can credit the flight to its Miles&Smiles programme or to a partner airline's scheme.
All scheduled passenger flights moved from Atatürk Airport to the new Istanbul Airport on 6 April 2019, and the IST code went with them. The terminal is huge, about 1,440,000 m2, and it handled roughly 84.5 million passengers in 2025, so allow a generous connection. Transfer passengers stay airside and follow the transfer signs.
Istanbul has a second international airport, Sabiha Gökçen, on the Asian side. A self-made connection between the two means clearing Turkish immigration and a long road transfer.
Istanbul Airport is in Arnavutköy on the European side, near the Black Sea coast. The M11 metro runs from the terminal to Gayrettepe, where you change to the M2 for Şişli and Taksim, and since 20 June 2026 the same line also runs west to Halkalı.
Turkey's entry rules depend on your passport. Some nationalities are visa-free, others can apply for an e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr, and others need a visa from a Turkish embassy. Bangladeshi citizens qualify for the e-Visa only if they hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, Ireland, the UK or the US; otherwise they apply through the Turkish embassy in Dhaka. A short airside transfer of under a day normally needs no Turkish visa.
Turkey has stayed on UTC+3 all year since 2016, three hours behind Dhaka in every season.
Turkish Airlines operates direct flights from Dhaka (DAC) to Istanbul (IST). The flight takes about 9h 10m.

Visa & documents
For Bangladeshi citizens, a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, Ireland, the UK or the US. Electronic visas and e-permits do not count. The e-Visa itself is single-entry for up to 30 days, and you also need a return ticket, a hotel booking and travel medical insurance.
Usually not, provided you stay in the international transit area for less than a day and your onward flight leaves from the same airport. A longer layover, or one that means leaving the terminal, puts you back in the visa rules.
Getting there
Not scheduled passenger flights. They all moved to the new Istanbul Airport on 6 April 2019, and the IST code went with them. If an old address or a relative says Atatürk, ignore it.
Its own Miles&Smiles, running since 2000, or any other Star Alliance programme, since Turkish joined the alliance in April 2008. If you already collect with a partner airline, credit the Dhaka flight there.
Almost anywhere. Turkish flies to 131 countries, more than any other airline, which is why so many on the Dhaka flight are bound for Europe, North America or Africa.
Partly. The Turkey Wealth Fund holds about 49.12%, and the rest of the shares trade publicly. The airline dates from 1933, when it was set up as Turkish State Airlines.
Booking
It could. Sabiha Gökçen is Istanbul's other international airport, used by different airlines. A self-made connection between the two means clearing Turkish immigration and a road transfer between airports, so it needs a visa and a lot of time.
Cancellations & changes
No, not since 2016. Turkey stays on UTC+3 all year, three hours behind Dhaka in every season, so the arrival time you see when you book holds whatever the month.
More than you think. The first-stage terminal has about 1,440,000 m2 of floor space and handled roughly 84.5 million passengers in 2025, eighth in the world, so the walk between gates can be long. A generous connection is worth the wait.
General
Yes. Since 20 June 2026 the 69 km line also runs west from the airport to Halkalı, which suits travellers staying on that side of the city.
