Flying from Istanbul to Bangkok

In short

Turkish Airlines and Thai Airways International fly nonstop from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok. The 7,512 km flight takes about 9 hours 55 minutes. Both countries' national airlines fly it, and many passengers start further away, in Europe, Africa or the Americas, and change planes in Istanbul.

Turkish Airlines through tickets to Bangkok

Both are full-service, with checked bags, meals and entertainment included. Turkish Airlines connects a very wide network into Istanbul, so a single through ticket keeps the bag checked to Bangkok and protects you if the first flight is delayed.

M11 metro from Gayrettepe or the Halkalı branch

The airport is at Arnavutköy, about 40 km north-west of the old city. The M11 metro runs from Gayrettepe, on the M2 line, in about 30 minutes. Since 20 June 2026 a western branch has linked Halkalı to the airport, which helps travellers staying on the European side's western districts. Pay with an İstanbulkart.

Havaist airport buses run from Taksim, Kadıköy, Aksaray, Sultanahmet, Bakırköy, Beylikdüzü and other points, arriving at floor -2 of the terminal.

TDAC and the 30-day exemption for Turkish citizens

Every foreign passenger completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before landing. It is free on tdac.immigration.go.th and opens three days before arrival.

Turkish citizens are on Thailand's 30-day visa-exemption list, which replaced the 60-day scheme on 15 September 2026. Travellers connecting from elsewhere should check their own passport's category on the Thai e-Visa portal or our Thailand visa page, as the list changed this year.

SAT-1 train to immigration at Suvarnabhumi

Long-haul aircraft often park at SAT-1, the satellite concourse. An automated train carries you through a tunnel of about one kilometre to the main terminal in about three minutes, then you walk to immigration.

Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan links to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. The S1 bus runs to Sanam Luang near the Grand Palace for 60 baht between 06:00 and 17:00.

Dhaka flights and Don Mueang domestic links

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). Istanbul also has its own nonstop flights to Bangladesh: see Istanbul to Dhaka flights. For Thai domestic flights from Don Mueang, minibus 555 links the two Bangkok airports between 06:30 and 20:00 for up to 60 baht.
