Mae Sot to Bangkok flight guide
Mae Sot (MAQ) has a single scheduled connection: Nok Air to Bangkok's Don Mueang (DMK). The 381 km flight takes about 55 minutes on a turboprop, a big saving on the bus, which runs for seven hours or more via Tak and the winding road through the hills.
The terminal is on the western edge of town, around 3 km from the Burmese market, so a taxi or tuk-tuk from most hotels takes five to ten minutes. Settle the fare before you set off. If you are coming from the waterfalls on Highway 1090 or from the Rim Moei market, give yourself extra time. The airport opens only around the scheduled flights, and you should be there an hour to 90 minutes before departure because Nok Air closes check-in ahead of the flight.
The 2019 terminal is spacious and rarely busy, but there is no confirmed lounge and little to buy, so eat in town first.
What you can check depends on the Nok Air fare you bought. The turboprop's overhead bins are smaller than on a jet, so a bulky carry-on may be tagged for the hold at the aircraft. Keep medicines, documents and valuables in a small bag you can hold on to.
The flight lands at Terminal 2 of Don Mueang International Airport, Nok Air's Bangkok base. From there:
Connecting to an international flight from Suvarnabhumi means crossing Bangkok: the free shuttle bus between the airports needs an onward ticket and takes an hour or more. Nok Air does not fly Mae Sot to Suvarnabhumi.
Travellers who have come over from Myawaddy should make sure their Thai entry stamp is in order before flying. The flight is domestic, but you show your passport or Thai ID card at check-in and boarding.
The building you check in at opened on 4 April 2019, sized for 1.7 million passengers a year. With a single scheduled route, it rarely feels busy.
We check practical details such as entry rules, seasons and costs against official government and tourism sources.
