Sukhothai to Bangkok flight guide
The only flight out of Sukhothai goes to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) with Bangkok Airways. It covers about 407 km and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. There is one important exception to plan for: Bangkok Airways suspends the route from 10 December 2026 to 28 February 2027, so the last flights before the break run on 9 December and service is due back from 1 March 2027.
During the suspension, the practical way to fly from Sukhothai is through Phitsanulok (PHS), about 58 km away by road. Nok Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air fly from there to Bangkok Don Mueang.
Sukhothai Airport is in the countryside of Sawankhalok district, about 27 to 35 km north of New Sukhothai and around 40 km from the Historical Park. Allow 35 to 45 minutes from the new town and more from the old city. There is no public bus or taxi rank, so ask your hotel to book the airport minivan or arrange a car with driver the day before. Arrive about an hour before departure; Bangkok Airways closes check-in shortly before the flight, so don't cut it finer. Flights cluster in short windows and the terminal is quiet for the rest of the day.
Use any spare time in the passenger lounge, which is open to every Bangkok Airways traveller, or take a slow walk through the open-air pavilions that won the architects' prize in 1998. Details are in the Sukhothai Airport guide.
Arriving at Suvarnabhumi puts you at Bangkok's main international airport, so a same-day flight home needs no airport change. On separate tickets, collect your bag and check in again upstairs. Into the city, the Airport Rail Link from the basement reaches Phaya Thai in about 26 minutes, and the public taxi rank is on Level 1. The Suvarnabhumi airport guide has the layout and transport.
Bangkok Airways' standard economy fare includes a checked bag. If you are carrying ceramics from Sawankhalok or other fragile buys, pack them in your hold bag with plenty of padding.
Sukhothai Airport covers more than 3,000 rai, and 600 rai of that is given over to an organic farm run alongside the airport. If you arrive early for the flight, the farm grounds are part of the scenery around the pavilions.
We check practical details such as entry rules, seasons and costs against official government and tourism sources.
