Udon Thani (UTH) to Pattaya is one of the few flights from Isan to the eastern seaboard that does not touch Bangkok. Thai Lion Air flies it nonstop to U-Tapao (UTP), the airport about 40 km south of central Pattaya, with an ATR 72-600 turboprop. The 557 km trip takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.
A 10 to 20 minute ride to Udon Thani's compact terminals
The airport is on the city's south-western edge, 3 to 4 km from the centre, so getting there takes 10 to 20 minutes by Grab or taxi. Its two connected terminals are compact, with coffee shops, a buffet restaurant on the first floor and a paid Coral Executive Lounge airside in Terminal 2. Ninety minutes before departure is enough most days; give yourself two hours around Songkran and New Year. The aerodrome works roughly 06:00 to 22:00.
The route started in June 2025, running four days a week at launch (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays). Days can change with the season, so check your date in the search before assuming a daily service.
Add a bag allowance at booking if you carry heavy luggage

Quick baggage claim at U-Tapao Terminal 2
U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport is run by the Royal Thai Navy and was built as a United States air base in the 1960s. Passenger flights use Terminal 2, where bags come through quickly because only one or two flights arrive at a time. There is no rail link and few scheduled buses: a minibus runs to Big C South Pattaya at 12:30, 14:00 and 17:00, and a van heads east to Rayong and Ban Phe on three afternoons a week. The licensed taxi cooperative, fixed-price limousines and pre-booked cars cover every arrival. Expect 40 minutes to an hour to central Pattaya, a little less to Jomtien, and about 34 km to Rayong town.
November to February is the most comfortable time on the coast, with less rain and lower humidity. Whatever the season, Pattaya's hotels are a proper drive from U-Tapao, so sort out the transfer before you board in Udon.
Why this 2025 route keeps changing its timetable
This is a young route. Thai Lion Air opened it on 11 June 2025 under the Department of Airports' New Route, New Airline programme, which halved landing and parking fees for new interregional links for one year, starting with four return flights a week. The service later paused, and CAPA reported on 29 October 2026 that Thai Lion Air had brought it back.
