Chennai to Phuket flight guide
Chennai to Phuket is a 2,056 km nonstop Thai AirAsia flight of about 3 hours 5 minutes from Chennai International Airport (MAA) to Phuket International Airport (HKT). It gives south Indian travellers a direct route to Thailand's island beaches with no change in Bangkok.
Thai AirAsia is the only airline here, and it is low-cost. The fare covers a seat and a cabin bag, while checked luggage, seats and meals cost extra. Pre-book everything you need online; it is cheaper than buying at the airport.
International flights leave from the Anna International Terminal at Chennai International Airport in Meenambakkam. The Chennai Metro Blue Line stops at the airport, a reliable way to beat city traffic, and app cabs drop off at departures.
Have your passport, any Thai visa your nationality requires and the TDAC confirmation ready at the check-in desk.
The metro is also the simplest way to reach the airport from central Chennai with luggage, as it avoids the road traffic. Arrive early enough to clear check-in, security and Indian emigration before the gate closes.
HKT sits at the north of the island, and most hotels in Patong, Kata and Karon are about an hour away.
Airports of Thailand runs the following options. The Airport Bus Express goes to Patong Beach via Thalang and Kathu from 8 am to 8 pm. An hourly airport bus heads to Phuket Town between 8:15 am and 8:15 pm, from in front of the arrival hall exit. The Smart Bus starts near the domestic terminal and follows the west coast to Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai. Public vans serve Patong, Kata and Karon only, and car rental counters are on the first floor. After the buses stop, taxis and pre-booked transfers are the only choice.
Every non-Thai national must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online at tdac.immigration.go.th in the three days before landing. It replaced the paper TM6 form on 1 May 2025. Royal Thai Embassy guidance says arrivals without it will not be processed and that the card can be filed before a visa is issued. It is not itself a visa: see our Thailand visa page for the rule that applies to your passport.
Phuket's dry season runs from about November to April, with the calmest seas for island trips. Chennai's own rainy season, from about October to December, can disrupt traffic to the airport, so leave extra time if you fly then.
Thailand is one hour 30 minutes ahead of India. You lose that time on the way out and gain it back on the return.
Ferries and speedboats run from Phuket to the Phi Phi islands and Krabi, and Thai AirAsia flies on to Bangkok and other Thai cities. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi has flights across Asia, including those on our Bangkok to Dhaka flights page. Chennai also has regional routes, listed on the Chennai to Dhaka flights page.
File the TDAC the day before you fly, keep the confirmation on your phone, and plan the hotel transfer around your landing time. A late-evening arrival in Phuket misses the last airport buses, so book a car ahead.
On the way home, check in at HKT's international terminal, beside the domestic one, and allow time for Thai emigration. Foreign nationals and OCI cardholders returning to Chennai file India's e-Arrival Card up to 72 hours before landing, on indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival or in the Su-Swagatam app.

Yes. The airport bus runs hourly from 8:15 am to 8:15 pm from in front of the arrivals exit, via Central to the old bus station.
General
The clock moves one hour and 30 minutes forward on landing in Thailand (Thailand is UTC+7). Neither side uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year.
Thai embassy guidance says immigration will not process your arrival without it. File it online within three days before landing.
What's included
It depends on the airline. Thai AirAsia is a low-cost carrier whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book.
Stay & facilities
Not in the basic fare. Thai AirAsia sells meals and drinks on board, and pre-ordering a meal online when you book gives the widest choice.
