Flying from Guangzhou to Bangkok

In short

A number of airlines fly nonstop from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) to Bangkok. Six land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Thai AirAsia at Don Mueang (DMK). The 1,705 km flight takes about 2 hours 40 minutes. Holidaymakers from southern China, traders and travellers connecting on to South Asia all use it, which keeps the route busy all year.

Metro Line 3 to Baiyun and the terminal changes

Baiyun is one of China's busiest airports, with 83.6 million passengers in 2025. It lies about 28 km north of downtown Guangzhou, and Metro Line 3 links the terminals with Tiyu Xilu and Tianhe in about 45 minutes. Terminal 1 closed for renovation on 7 May 2026, so departures now leave from Terminal 2, China Southern's hub, or from Terminal 3, which opened in October 2025. Check the terminal on your booking before you set out.

Guangzhou-based carriers and low-cost options

China Southern Airlines and 9 Air are both based at Guangzhou. China Eastern Airlines, Thai Airways International and Kenya Airways, which flies between Guangzhou and Nairobi with a stop in Bangkok, complete the full-service list. 9 Air, Spring Airlines and Thai AirAsia are low-cost carriers whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book if you are carrying goods.

Suvarnabhumi rail links into the city

At Suvarnabhumi, about 25 km east of the centre, the Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain. Makkasan station connects to the MRT Blue Line. The airport opened in 2006, has three parallel runways and handled almost 63 million passengers in 2025, so queues at immigration can be long at peak times. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals.

Don Mueang, Bangkok's first airport, sits north of the city. International flights use Terminal 1. The SRT Dark Red Line stops there, and bus A3 runs to Pratunam, Ratchaprasong and Lumpini Park for 50 baht.

Thai entry rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor fills in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.

Onward to Dhaka via Bangkok or direct

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). If you land at Don Mueang, allow time to cross the city and check in again. Guangzhou also has its own flights to Dhaka: see Guangzhou to Dhaka flights. Going via Bangkok pays off when you want a few days in Thailand.

Clocks go back one hour on landing in Thailand (UTC+7). Neither country uses daylight saving.
