Turkish Airlines or Thai Airways
Both are full-service airlines, with checked baggage, meals and entertainment in economy. Turkish Airlines' strength is its network beyond Istanbul: a single ticket keeps the bag checked to the final city and protects the connection if the Bangkok flight runs late. Allowances can differ between sectors, so check the figure that applies to the whole journey.
Suvarnabhumi and the SAT-1 wide-body gates
Both airlines depart from Suvarnabhumi, about 25 km east of central Bangkok and 27 minutes from Phaya Thai on the Airport Rail Link. Wide-body flights often board at SAT-1, the satellite concourse with 28 gates; eight of them take the largest aircraft. An automated train runs through a tunnel of about one kilometre from the main terminal, a trip of about three minutes including the wait.
M11 metro from Istanbul Airport to Gayrettepe
Istanbul Airport is about 40 km north-west of the city centre at Arnavutköy. The M11 metro links it to Gayrettepe in about 30 minutes, where you change to the M2 for Taksim and Şişhane. The line opened in stages from January 2023, reached Gayrettepe in January 2024, and on 20 June 2026 a western section opened to Halkalı. Pay with an İstanbulkart at the turnstile; fares on the M11 depend on distance.
Havaist buses leave from floor -2, reached by the lifts in front of the arrival and departure gates, and serve Taksim, Kadıköy, Aksaray, Sultanahmet, Beylikdüzü and other districts. Check fares and timetables on hava.ist before you travel.
Visa-free or e-Visa for Türkiye
Visa rules depend on nationality: some visitors enter visa-free, others need an e-Visa applied for online. Check the official Turkish e-Visa site or the nearest Turkish embassy before booking. Passengers connecting on one ticket stay airside.
Separate tickets from Dhaka via Suvarnabhumi
Travellers from South Asia arriving on Biman, US-Bangla or Thai Airways land at Suvarnabhumi (see our Dhaka to Bangkok flights page), the same airport as the Istanbul departures. On separate tickets you clear Thai immigration and check in again, which needs permission to enter Thailand and a completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card.
