Taipei to Phuket flight guide
Tigerair Taiwan is the only airline flying nonstop from Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to Phuket International Airport (HKT) in southern Thailand. The 3,076 km flight takes about 4 hours 20 minutes, which makes it the simplest way for travellers based in northern Taiwan to reach the Andaman coast beaches of Patong, Kata and Kamala without a change of plane in Bangkok.
Tigerair Taiwan runs the route on its own. It is a low-cost airline, so the basic fare covers a cabin bag only, and checked baggage, seat selection and meals are paid extras. Adding a bag while booking online costs less than paying at the airport, and that matters on a beach trip where luggage tends to grow on the way home.
The link is fairly new. The first Tigerair Taiwan flight to the island, IT503, landed at Phuket on 10 May 2023 with 190 passengers on board an Airbus A320, and the same aircraft flew back to Taipei that evening. Before that, the airline's only Thai destination after the pandemic was Bangkok's Don Mueang. Weekly frequency has moved between the summer and winter seasons since then, so look at the search results for your dates before fixing hotel nights.
The Taoyuan Airport MRT is the quickest way out of Taipei. Express trains leave Taipei Main Station (A1) about every 15 minutes, stop at Airport Terminal 1 (A12) and Terminal 2 (A13), and run from 05:30 until the last express at 23:00. The ride to the airport takes about 35 to 40 minutes. Check which terminal Tigerair Taiwan is using on your booking, and plan to be at the check-in counter two to three hours before departure, the window Taoyuan Metro itself recommends.
Phuket International Airport sits at the northern tip of the island, so most beach hotels are a drive away. Allow around an hour to Patong or Kata by taxi or minivan, longer when the roads are busy. Airports of Thailand, which runs the airport, lists several cheaper options in arrivals:
The Airport Bus Express goes straight to Patong Beach, with departures from the airport between 08:00 and 20:00. The Phuket Smart Bus serves the west-coast beaches from Surin down to Rawai. A separate airport bus runs roughly hourly into Phuket Town from 08:15 to 20:15, and public passenger vans cover Patong, Kata and Karon for solo travellers. Car rental desks are on the first floor if you plan to drive yourself.
Taiwan passport holders can visit Thailand without a visa for up to 30 days. Thailand replaced its 60-day exemption with a 30-day exemption on 15 September 2026, covering 60 countries and territories including Taiwan. Other nationalities should check the current list on our Thailand visa page before booking.
Every non-Thai traveller also completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online before landing. The form is free, opens three days before your travel date and is filed on the official site, tdac.immigration.go.th. Avoid paid agents that copy the form.
Thailand runs one hour behind Taiwan, on UTC+7, and neither side uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year. A morning departure from Taoyuan lands in Phuket in the early afternoon local time.
For the return, Airports of Thailand advises reaching Phuket at least two hours before departure. Travellers carrying on to other parts of Asia can also fly from Phuket to Bangkok and connect from Suvarnabhumi, for example to Dhaka (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights).
