Vientiane to Bangkok flight guide
Multiple airlines fly nonstop from Wattay International Airport (VTE) in Vientiane to Bangkok: Lao Airlines and Thai Airways International to Suvarnabhumi (BKK), and Thai AirAsia to Don Mueang (DMK). The 516 km flight takes about 1 hour 10 minutes. It is the main air link out of the Lao capital, used by business travellers, officials and visitors heading home or onward through Bangkok.
Wattay is about 3 km from the centre of Vientiane, among the shortest airport rides of any capital in the region. The international terminal was renovated in 2005 and enlarged between 2015 and 2018. Lao Airlines has its hub there, along with Lao Skyway and Lanexang Airways International.
Lao Airlines and Thai Airways International include a checked bag and land at Suvarnabhumi, which suits same-day connections. Thai AirAsia lands at Don Mueang and charges for checked baggage. If you only need Bangkok itself, the Don Mueang flight puts you closer to Chatuchak and the north of the city.
Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok in Samut Prakan province. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan station connects to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. For travellers going straight to the coast, coach 389 leaves for Pattaya and coach 789 for Hua Hin.
Don Mueang is in the north. International flights use Terminal 1. The SRT Dark Red Line stops at the airport, and bus A1 runs to the BTS at Chatuchak and Mo Chit 2 bus terminal for 30 baht.
Thai entry rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor fills in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.
The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). If you land at Don Mueang, Airports of Thailand runs a free shuttle bus to Suvarnabhumi for ticketed passengers, but allow time for traffic.
There is no time difference between Vientiane and Bangkok.

What's included
It depends on the airline. Thai AirAsia is a low-cost carrier whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On Thai AirAsia, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
