Check which terminal your Biman ticket shows. Terminal 1 is Saudia's base and has the rail station, while the North Terminal is used mainly by foreign airlines. If the booking says North Terminal, allow time to cross from one building to the other after the train. During Hajj, groups may be sent to the Hajj Terminal, built to hold 80,000 travellers at once; your agency confirms that.
Coming by road from central Jeddah, the airport is about 19 km to the north. Queues at South Asian check-in desks grow long in Umrah season, so leave with a margin.
Busy immigration at Patenga's Shah Amanat
The airport sits at Patenga, at the southern tip of the city where the Karnaphuli meets the sea. It was built to handle 1.5 million passengers a year and was already handling 3,019,064 by 2019, so several Gulf and Saudi arrivals close together stretch immigration and the belts. Ask relatives to wait in the car park until you message them.
For the drive north, the 16 km Shaheed Wasim Akram Flyover runs from the airport to Lalkhan Bazar above the traffic, with tolls collected by the Chittagong Development Authority. GEC and O.R. Nizam Road are a short drive from its top end. Agrabad lies on the way into town, and the railway station on Station Road is about 18.5 km by road, which suits anyone catching an onward train.
