In short

Nepal Airlines, Thai Airways International and Thai AirAsia fly nonstop from Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu to Bangkok. The 2,229 km flight takes about 3 hours 15 minutes. It is a busy route for Nepali workers, students and holidaymakers, and for travellers ending a trek with a few days in Thailand.

Nepal Airlines and Thai to BKK, Thai AirAsia to DMK

Nepal Airlines and Thai Airways arrive at Suvarnabhumi (BKK); Thai AirAsia arrives at Don Mueang (DMK). The full-service fares include a checked bag and meal. Thai AirAsia's base fare covers a cabin bag only, so add hold luggage when you book if you are carrying trekking kit home.

Tribhuvan's single runway shared with mountain flights

Tribhuvan International Airport is about 5.6 km east of central Kathmandu, and taxis from Thamel take 20 to 40 minutes. It operates on a single runway of about 3,050 m, shared with domestic flights from Lukla, Pokhara and other mountain airstrips. Trekkers flying out of Lukla should plan at least one buffer day before the Bangkok flight, as mountain weather often grounds those small aircraft.

TDAC and the 30-day visa exemption for 60 countries

Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) on tdac.immigration.go.th. It is free, opens three days before arrival, and applies to every non-Thai traveller.

Since 15 September 2026, a 30-day visa exemption covering 60 countries and territories has replaced the 60-day scheme. Nepal was not named in that announcement, so Nepali passport holders should check the Thai e-Visa portal, and our Thailand visa page explains the steps. Trekkers from Europe or the Americas should confirm their own category too, as the list changed.

Rail Link, taxis and bus 389 from Suvarnabhumi

Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and connects with the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan links to the MRT Blue Line. Taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. For a beach stop, bus 389 runs to Pattaya from Exit 8 on the first floor between 10:00 and 18:00 for 130 baht.

Gate 6 buses and the Red Line from Don Mueang

The A1 and A2 buses leave Gate 6 of Don Mueang's international terminal for 30 baht, the A1 to Mo Chit 2 and the A2 to Victory Monument, both via BTS Chatuchak. The SRT Red Line also runs south to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, where it meets the MRT Blue Line, with trains from about 05:00 to 23:45.

Minibus 555 to Suvarnabhumi for flights to Dhaka

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). If you land at Don Mueang, minibus 555 crosses to Suvarnabhumi between 06:30 and 20:00 for up to 60 baht, but give yourself time for the road and a new check-in. Kathmandu also has direct flights of its own: see Kathmandu to Dhaka flights.
