Flying from Kolkata to Phuket

In short

Kolkata to Phuket is a 1,930 km nonstop IndiGo flight of about 2 hours 55 minutes from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) to Phuket International Airport (HKT). It is the shortest way from eastern India to Thailand's beaches, with no stop in Bangkok.

Adding a beach bag to an IndiGo ticket

IndiGo is a low-cost airline and the only one on this route. A basic ticket includes a cabin bag; checked baggage, seats and meals are paid extras. A week on the beach usually means a checked bag, and it is cheaper bought online than at the counter.

An hour from Park Street to Dum Dum

The airport is at Dum Dum in the north-east of the city. From Park Street or Esplanade, allow an hour or more by prepaid taxi or app cab, especially at the evening rush. Have your passport, visa for Thailand if your nationality needs one, and the TDAC confirmation ready at check-in.

Buses to Patong and Phuket Town

Phuket International Airport sits at the north of the island, and the main beaches are about an hour away. Airports of Thailand lists:

  • the Airport Bus Express to Patong Beach via Thalang and Kathu, 8 am to 8 pm;
  • an hourly airport bus to Phuket Town from 8:15 am to 8:15 pm, passing Central and the old bus station;
  • the Phuket Smart Bus along the west coast to Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai;
  • shared public vans to Patong, Kata and Karon;
  • car rental counters on the first floor.

The Smart Bus stop is beside the domestic terminal, close to the arrivals exit, a short walk from international arrivals. Buses and the Airport Bus Express stop running in the evening, so a late landing means a taxi or a transfer booked ahead. Taxis and pre-booked transfers are faster for families with luggage anyway. The AOT call centre (1722) answers transport questions.

Thailand Digital Arrival Card

All non-Thai nationals must file the TDAC online at tdac.immigration.go.th within three days before arrival. It became compulsory on 1 May 2025 in place of the paper TM6 card, and it is not a visa. Thai embassy guidance says arrivals without it will not be processed and that you can submit it before a visa is issued. For visa rules by passport, see our Thailand visa page and the official e-Visa site.

Beach weather, Puja dates and the clock change

Thailand is one hour 30 minutes ahead of India (UTC+7 against UTC+5:30), and neither country changes its clocks. The flight usually lands in Phuket later in the day by the local clock than it feels.

The best beach weather is from about November to April. Puja holidays in October and the Christmas and New Year break are the busiest times for Kolkata travellers and seats go early.

Phi Phi, Krabi and flights home from Bangkok

From Phuket, ferries run to Phi Phi and Krabi, and domestic flights reach Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Many visitors finish in Bangkok and fly home from Suvarnabhumi, which also has the flights on our Bangkok to Dhaka flights page. Kolkata has its own short link to Bangladesh, covered on the Kolkata to Dhaka flights page.

Book the return early if your trip falls in December, when flights back to Kolkata fill up before the New Year.

e-Arrival Card and check-in at HKT for the return

Coming back, foreign nationals and OCI cardholders file India's e-Arrival Card up to 72 hours before landing in Kolkata, on indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival or in the Su-Swagatam app. At HKT, the international terminal stands beside the domestic one; check in there, then clear Thai emigration. The last Airport Bus Express leaves Patong at 6:30 pm, so evening departures need a taxi.
