Paro to Bangkok flight guide
Drukair and Bhutan Airlines fly from Paro International Airport (PBH) in western Bhutan to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok (BKK). Nonstop, the 1,925 km takes about 2 hours 55 minutes. The route is the main way out of Bhutan for visitors heading to Southeast Asia, and many use it to add a few days of Bangkok or the Thai beaches after the mountains.
Paro is the only international airport in Bhutan. It lies about 6 km from Paro town and 54 km from Thimphu, so allow a little over an hour from the capital. The airfield sits at 2,235 m in a narrow valley, and flights operate only in daylight under visual conditions. Delays for cloud or wind are common in some seasons, which is why departures are early and why a spare day before any long-haul connection in Bangkok is sensible.
Drukair opens its airport check-in counters three hours before departure and closes them one hour before, and it advises arriving at least two hours early. Reconfirm your booking 72 hours before you fly.
Both are full-service, so a checked bag and a meal are normally in the fare. Drukair, the state-owned national airline, flies Airbus A319 and A320 jets among its fleet and caps every checked bag at 32 kg. Bhutan Airlines is privately owned and has flown since 2011; in August 2025 it had two A319s with 12 business and 114 economy seats. Some flights on both stop in India on the way, at places such as Kolkata or Guwahati. A nonstop flight is the faster choice when one runs on your date.
Suvarnabhumi, about 25 km east of central Bangkok, has three parallel runways and handled almost 63 million passengers in 2025. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain there; Makkasan connects to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. For a cheap ride to the old town, bus S1 runs to Sanam Luang for 60 baht between 06:00 and 17:00.
Thai entry rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor fills in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.
The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways all leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). Paro also has its own flights to Dhaka: see Paro to Dhaka flights. Routing through Bangkok makes sense when you want time in Thailand on the way home.
Clocks move one hour forward on landing in Thailand (UTC+7). Neither country uses daylight saving.
