Flying from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok

In short

Etihad Airways flies nonstop from Zayed International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok, the only airline on the route. The 4,966 km flight takes about 6 hours 40 minutes. UAE residents use it for holidays in Thailand, and travellers from Europe and Africa connect onto it in Abu Dhabi.

Etihad's A380 and its Phuket and Chiang Mai routes

Etihad is full-service, with checked bags and meals included in economy. The airline has flown its Airbus A380 to Bangkok and also serves Phuket and Chiang Mai from Abu Dhabi, so beach and mountain trips can start without a change in Bangkok.

Terminal A at Zayed International and Hafilat buses

All Etihad flights use Terminal A, which opened in November 2023 and gave the airport its new name, Zayed International. The terminal can handle up to 45 million passengers a year. Public buses stop outside, with fares around AED 4 paid by Hafilat card only, and taxis serve the 30 km run from the city.

TDAC and the exemption for UAE citizens

Every foreign passenger completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before landing. It is free on tdac.immigration.go.th, opens three days before arrival and is not a visa.

UAE citizens are on Thailand's 30-day visa-exemption list, which replaced the 60-day scheme on 15 September 2026. Most people on this flight are expatriates, though, and they travel under their own passport's rules; check your category on the Thai e-Visa portal or on our Thailand visa page.

SAT-1 and the train to Suvarnabhumi's main terminal

A380s and other large jets often park at SAT-1, the satellite concourse with eight Code F gates. An automated train carries arriving passengers through a tunnel of about one kilometre to the main terminal in about three minutes.

Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link reaches Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan links to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. Bus 389 goes to Pattaya from Exit 8 on the first floor between 10:00 and 18:00 for 130 baht, and the S1 runs to Sanam Luang for 60 baht between 06:00 and 17:00.

Dhaka flights and Don Mueang low-cost connections

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). Abu Dhabi also has its own nonstop flights to Bangladesh: see Abu Dhabi to Dhaka flights. For a Thai domestic low-cost flight from Don Mueang, minibus 555 crosses between the airports from 06:30 to 20:00 for up to 60 baht.
