Flying from Abu Dhabi to Phuket

In short

Abu Dhabi to Phuket is a 4,974 km nonstop Etihad Airways flight of about 6 hours 45 minutes from Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Phuket International Airport (HKT). It is the direct route from the UAE capital to Thailand's biggest island, and a one-stop option for travellers from Europe connecting in Abu Dhabi.

One airline, bags and meals included

Etihad is the only airline on the route and is full-service. Economy normally includes a checked bag, meals and drinks. That simplifies planning for a beach holiday with luggage and makes the price easy to compare with one-stop options.

One Etihad terminal, about 30 km from the city

All flights at Zayed International leave from Terminal A, about 30 km from the city centre by taxi or bus. Passengers connecting from Europe or elsewhere on one Etihad ticket stay within Terminal A.

Airport Bus Express via Thalang and Kathu, 8 am to 8 pm

HKT is at the northern end of the island, so most beach hotels are an hour or so away.

Airports of Thailand lists the options. The Airport Bus Express to Patong Beach via Thalang and Kathu runs from 8 am to 8 pm. The hourly airport bus to Phuket Town runs from 8:15 am to 8:15 pm, from in front of the arrival exit, calling at Central and the old bus station. The Phuket Smart Bus leaves from beside the domestic terminal for Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai. Shared public vans serve Patong, Kata and Karon. Car hire counters are on the first floor.

Overnight flights from the Gulf often land in the early morning, before the buses start, so arrange a taxi or a pre-booked shuttle.

Filing the TDAC before the Abu Dhabi flight

All non-Thai nationals must submit the TDAC online at tdac.immigration.go.th within the three days before arrival. It replaced the paper TM6 card on 1 May 2025. Royal Thai Embassy guidance says arrivals without it will not be processed and that it can be filed before a visa is issued. It is not a visa; our Thailand visa page explains the rules for different passports.

Losing three hours and most of a night's sleep

Thailand is three hours ahead of the UAE all year. An overnight departure from Abu Dhabi lands in Phuket in the morning, local time, and you lose most of a night's sleep.

Phuket's dry season, roughly November to April, brings calm seas and is the busiest time on the route. The UAE summer, when many residents travel, falls in Phuket's wet season, from about May to October, when hotel rates drop.

Early check-in, baht and the first taxi

Book your hotel from the night before if you land early, or ask for early check-in. Keep the TDAC confirmation and your hotel address handy at immigration. Withdraw a little Thai baht at the airport for the first taxi.

For transport questions, the Airports of Thailand call centre is on 1722.

Last buses to HKT for the trip home

Coming home, allow about an hour from the southern beaches to HKT. The last Airport Bus Express leaves Patong at 6:30 pm, and the hourly bus from Phuket Town's old bus station runs until 9:15 pm. Check in at the international terminal, beside the domestic building, about three hours before departure. Residents should check their UAE residence visa is valid; visitors should confirm their entry option on the u.ae portal.

Ferries to Phi Phi and Etihad's other routes

Ferries run to Phi Phi and Krabi, and domestic flights go to Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi has flights across Asia, including the routes on our Bangkok to Dhaka flights page. Etihad's other routes from AUH include Abu Dhabi to Dhaka flights.
