Flying from Bangkok to Abu Dhabi

In short

Etihad Airways is the only airline flying nonstop from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok to Zayed International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi. The 4,966 km flight takes about 6 hours 40 minutes. It serves UAE residents coming home from Thai holidays, visitors to Abu Dhabi and passengers connecting through Etihad's hub to Europe, Africa and North America.

Etihad bags, meals and the A380 on Bangkok

Etihad is the UAE's national full-service airline, so economy fares include checked baggage and meals. Allowances depend on the fare type and destination and are shown in the booking. Etihad has also used its Airbus A380 on Bangkok, and it flies from Abu Dhabi to Phuket and Chiang Mai, so check which aircraft and city your date shows.

SAT-1 and the A380 gates at Suvarnabhumi

Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok, 27 minutes from Phaya Thai on the Airport Rail Link. Large aircraft often use SAT-1, a satellite concourse with eight gates built for the A380 and other Code F jets. It is reached from the main terminal by an automated train through a tunnel of about one kilometre, a ride of about three minutes, so leave time after passport control.

Terminal A in Abu Dhabi

The airport was renamed Zayed International Airport after Terminal A opened in November 2023, and Etihad has operated entirely from the new terminal since then. It is Etihad's home base, built for up to 45 million passengers a year. In the year after the full move, Etihad's weekly flights rose from 1,336 to 1,732, so expect a busy transfer area at peak times.

Taxis or a Hafilat-card bus into Abu Dhabi

The city centre is about 30 km away. Taxis wait outside arrivals. Public buses stop just outside the arrivals area, with one-way fares of around AED 4; you need a Hafilat card, as drivers do not accept cash. The airport publishes its city bus routes and timetables online.

UAE visas, Emirates ID and staying airside

Entry rules depend on nationality. Residents need a valid Emirates ID and residence visa, and visitors should check the UAE's official channels or our UAE visa page before booking. Passengers connecting on one Etihad ticket stay airside.

From Dhaka to the Etihad flight on separate tickets

Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways land at Suvarnabhumi from Dhaka (see our Dhaka to Bangkok flights page), the same airport as the Etihad departure. On separate tickets you clear Thai immigration and check in again, which needs permission to enter Thailand and a completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card. Dhaka also has its own flights to Abu Dhabi: see Dhaka to Abu Dhabi flights.
