Flying from Phuket to Abu Dhabi

In short

Phuket to Abu Dhabi is a nonstop Etihad Airways flight of about 6 hours 45 minutes and 4,974 km from Phuket International Airport (HKT) to Zayed International Airport (AUH). It links Thailand's beach island with the UAE capital and with Etihad's network to Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Etihad's full-service fare and through-checked bags

Etihad is a full-service airline, the only one on this route. Economy fares normally include a checked bag, meals and drinks, which matters on a flight of almost seven hours. Connections in Abu Dhabi on one ticket stay airside, with bags checked through.

Airport buses from Patong and Phuket Town

Phuket's airport is at the northern tip of the island, about an hour from Patong, Kata and Karon. Airports of Thailand lists the Airport Bus Express from Patong via Kathu, with departures from Patong between 6 am and 6:30 pm, and an hourly airport bus from Phuket Town between 9:15 am and 9:15 pm. The Phuket Smart Bus covers the west-coast beaches. For evening flights, book a taxi or transfer.

The international terminal is next to the domestic building. Allow about three hours for check-in, security and Thai emigration before a long-haul flight, and return rental cars on the first floor.

Terminal A at Zayed International

Zayed International Airport, formerly Abu Dhabi International, handles all flights in Terminal A. The city centre is about 30 km away by taxi or bus.

If you are connecting onward with Etihad, follow the transfer signs within Terminal A; there is no need to change buildings.

Visa on arrival or advance application for the UAE

Visa requirements for the UAE depend on nationality. Some passports qualify for a visit visa on arrival, while others must apply in advance. The UAE government portal u.ae lists the visa types, and our UAE visa page summarises them. Etihad checks documents at check-in in Phuket, so sort this out before flying.

Abu Dhabi is three hours behind Phuket

The UAE is three hours behind Thailand (UTC+4 against UTC+7), with no daylight saving on either side. An evening flight from Phuket lands in Abu Dhabi late the same evening, local time.

Phuket's dry season, from about November to April, matches the cooler months in the UAE, the best time for both beaches and desert trips. From May to September Abu Dhabi is very hot, and Phuket is in its rainy season.

Etihad as the price benchmark against Bangkok routings

With one airline on the nonstop, Etihad's fare is the benchmark. One-stop alternatives through Bangkok exist, but count the cost of bags on low-cost domestic legs and the possible change of airport in Bangkok.

The last Airport Bus Express leaves Patong at 6:30 pm. If your flight leaves late at night, arrange a taxi from your hotel, allowing an hour for the drive plus time for traffic around Kathu.

Airports of Thailand also lets you pre-book an airport shuttle, and its call centre on 1722 answers questions about buses and transfers. Rental cars go back to the counters on the first floor of the terminal.

TDAC filing on the trip back from Terminal A

On the way back, Etihad leaves from Terminal A at Zayed International. Non-Thai nationals file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card at tdac.immigration.go.th within three days before landing in Phuket; it replaced the paper TM6 card in May 2025. Overnight arrivals often land before the airport buses start at 8 am, so book a transfer.

Etihad onward links to Europe and North America

Etihad flies from Abu Dhabi across the Gulf, to South Asia, Europe and North America. Our Dhaka to Abu Dhabi flights page covers one of those links, and the Dhaka to Bangkok flights page shows the usual route into Thailand from that region.
