Dubai to Chattogram flight guide
Several airlines fly nonstop from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram (CGP): flydubai, US-Bangla Airlines and Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The 3,713 km flight takes about 4 hours 55 minutes, a touch faster than the outbound leg thanks to tailwinds heading east. It takes workers in the Emirates straight home to Chattogram and the south-east.
flydubai flies a Boeing 737 MAX 8 and includes 20 kg in the hold. US-Bangla and Biman include 30 kg. All of them cap the cabin bag at 7 kg. If you are carrying presents for the whole family, book a Bangladeshi carrier or add weight to the flydubai booking online, since excess at the airport is charged on the spot. Gold and electronics carried home fall under Bangladesh customs rules for returning expatriates, so check the current limits before you shop.
Most flydubai departures to Chattogram leave from Terminal 2, with a few from Terminal 3. Terminal 2 sits on the far side of the airfield and is not on the Metro, so plan a taxi or a lift; the Red Line serves Terminals 1 and 3. Biman and US-Bangla passengers should read the terminal on their own booking. Dubai plans to move its flights to an expanded Al Maktoum International in time, but for now all the airlines use DXB.
Chattogram's airport was renamed after Shah Amanat, an 18th-century saint of the city, on 2 April 2005; older papers may still call it MA Hannan International. It has one terminal with international and domestic sides, so a domestic connection stays in the same building.
Most arrivals are met by family in the car park outside. The 16 km raised road from Patenga to Lalkhan Bazar, now named the Shaheed Wasim Akram Flyover, has carried tolled traffic since January 2025 and shortens the drive north to Agrabad, GEC and Lalkhan Bazar. The railway station is about 18.5 km away. Chattogram is two hours ahead of Dubai.
Three airlines operate direct flights from Dubai (DXB) to Chattogram (CGP). The flight takes about 4h 55m.

Getting there
Most flydubai departures to Chattogram use Terminal 2, with a few moved to Terminal 3, where flydubai has handled selected routes since December 2018. Terminal 2 sits on the far side of the airfield from Terminals 1 and 3, and the Red Line Metro only stops at those two. For Terminal 2 plan on a taxi or a lift. Biman and US-Bangla passengers should read the terminal printed on their own booking.
Around 20 km. The airport sits at the southern tip of Patenga on the north bank of the Karnaphuli, while GEC Circle is in the commercial heart of the city. Agrabad falls roughly halfway, which makes it the easiest base if you want to be close to both the port district and the airport.
Yes. Chattogram has one passenger building of about 220,000 sq ft, split into an international side and a domestic side, each with its own boarding bridge. If you are continuing to Dhaka or elsewhere in Bangladesh, you clear immigration and customs, collect your bags and then check in again on the domestic side of the same terminal.
Eventually, perhaps. Dubai plans to close DXB once the expanded Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central is fully working, and construction there is expected to run until about 2027. For now flydubai, Biman and US-Bangla all depart from Dubai International, so check the airport code on your ticket if you book far ahead.
About 18.5 km by road, from Patenga up to Station Road in the old town. If you plan to catch a train on the same day you land, leave a wide margin for traffic around the port, and consider a night at one of the budget hotels on Station Road.
General
Not on the basic ticket. flydubai's allowance on this route is 20 kg in the hold, while Biman and US-Bangla give 30 kg. Anyone carrying presents for the whole family should either book one of the Bangladeshi carriers or add extra weight to the flydubai booking before the airport, where excess weight is charged on the spot. The 7 kg cabin limit is the same on all of them.
Two hours. Bangladesh runs on UTC+6 and the UAE on UTC+4 in every season. A flight of just under five hours therefore lands roughly seven hours later by the clock than it left. Allow for that when you tell relatives what time to drive to Patenga.
Agrabad is the city's commercial district, where banks and company offices cluster, and two of the hotels under Where to stay sit there. For restaurants and shopping, the GEC area is livelier. Lalkhan Bazar, home to the city's five-star hotel, sits at the top of the flyover, so it is quick to reach from Patenga.
Prices & payment
Yes. The 16 km raised road, now named the Shaheed Wasim Akram Flyover, opened for a trial run in August 2024, and the Chittagong Development Authority has collected tolls on it since January 2025. Drivers who prefer to avoid the charge can stay on the surface roads through Agrabad, though that route is slower at busy times.
Visa & documents
That was its name until 2 April 2005, when the government renamed it after Shah Amanat, an 18th-century Islamic saint of the city. The IATA code CGP did not change, so older tickets, family paperwork and some taxi drivers may still use the earlier name for the same airport.
