Hong Kong to Phuket flight guide
Cathay Pacific and HK Express fly nonstop from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Phuket International Airport (HKT) on Thailand's Andaman coast. The 2,297 km flight takes about 3 hours 20 minutes, which makes Phuket a realistic long-weekend trip from Hong Kong and an easy connection for travellers arriving in Hong Kong from further afield.
Cathay Pacific is a full-service airline, so a checked bag and a meal are normally included. HK Express is the low-cost option and charges for bags, food and seat choice. For a short break with only a cabin bag, HK Express is often cheaper; with luggage, compare the totals.
The Airport Express from Hong Kong station in Central takes about 24 minutes, stopping at Kowloon and Tsing Yi. Arrive about three hours before departure for an international flight.
Entry rules for Thailand depend on your nationality, and every foreign visitor completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within 72 hours before landing; our Thailand visa page has the details. Since 15 September 2026, Thailand has given 30-day visa-free stays to tourists from 60 countries and territories, replacing the 60-day exemption.
The airport is at the northern tip of the island. AOT lists two buses from the arrivals exit: the Airport Bus Express to Patong Beach from 08:00 to 20:00, and an hourly airport bus to Phuket Town from 08:15 to 20:15. The Phuket Smart Bus leaves from the domestic terminal and follows the west coast via Kamala, Karon and Kata to Rawai. Public minivans run to Patong, Kata and Karon. Taxis take around an hour to the main beaches, and rental cars are on the first floor.
With a flight of just over three hours, a Friday evening departure from Hong Kong gets you to Phuket the same night. If you land after 20:00, the airport buses have finished, so book a car to your hotel in advance.
Turn your watch back one hour on landing (Hong Kong is UTC+8, Thailand UTC+7). For onward trips, domestic flights link Phuket with Bangkok, where you can connect across Asia, for example to South Asia from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). Hong Kong also has direct flights; see Hong Kong to Dhaka flights.

About 3 hours 20 minutes in the air. The two airports are 2,297 km apart in a straight line; actual times vary a little by airline, aircraft and wind.
Separate international and domestic terminals, side by side. International flights such as this one use the international side, so allow time for immigration on arrival.
Phuket International Airport is at the northern end of the island, so the west-coast beaches are a fair drive away: allow around an hour to Patong or Kata by taxi or minivan, more in traffic. The Phuket Smart Bus runs from the airport down the west coast beaches.
The Airport Express train runs to Hong Kong station in Central in about 24 minutes, stopping at Tsing Yi and Kowloon.
AOT lists the last Airport Bus Express to Patong at 20:00 and the last airport bus to Phuket Town at 20:15.
General
The clock moves one hour back on landing in Thailand (Thailand is UTC+7). Neither side uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year.
Fly to Bangkok and connect there. If your domestic flight lands at Don Mueang and you leave from Suvarnabhumi, allow time to cross the city.
Yes; see Hong Kong to Dhaka flights. Going via Phuket is worth it if you want a few days in Thailand on the way home.
What's included
It depends on the airline. HK Express is a low-cost carrier whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Visa & documents
It depends on your nationality. Check our Thailand visa page and the Thai immigration website, and complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On HK Express, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
