Cathay Pacific and HK Express fly nonstop from Phuket International Airport (HKT) in southern Thailand to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). The 2,297 km flight takes about 3 hours 20 minutes and suits Hong Kong holidaymakers heading home and travellers connecting in Hong Kong to North-East Asia, Australia or long-haul routes.
Cathay Pacific is a full-service airline and normally includes a checked bag and a meal. HK Express sells the seat alone and charges for bags, meals and seat selection.
The airport is at the north end of the island. AOT, the airport operator, lists an Airport Bus Express from Patong Beach between 06:00 and 18:30 and an hourly airport bus from Phuket Town between 09:15 and 21:15. The Phuket Smart Bus runs along the west coast via Kata, Karon and Kamala to the domestic terminal, and minivans and taxis cover other areas. Allow at least an hour from Patong or Kata, and arrive about three hours before departure; HK Express closes check-in well before the flight.
Hong Kong International Airport is on Chek Lap Kok island. The Airport Express reaches Hong Kong station in Central in about 24 minutes, calling at Tsing Yi and Kowloon, with free shuttle buses to many hotels from Kowloon and Hong Kong stations. Hong Kong sets its own entry rules, separate from mainland China; check the Hong Kong Immigration Department for your passport before you fly.
Hong Kong is one hour ahead of Thailand all year (UTC+8 against UTC+7). Travellers from elsewhere in Asia usually reach Phuket through Bangkok (see our Dhaka to Bangkok flights page for one example), and Hong Kong has its own direct links, such as Dhaka to Hong Kong flights.
