Bangkok Airways flies nonstop from Samui International Airport (USM) on Koh Samui, in Thailand's Gulf of Thailand, to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). The 2,048 km flight takes a little over three hours. It is the only direct link between the island and Hong Kong, used by Hong Kong residents heading home and by travellers who want to finish a Samui holiday without a connection in Bangkok.
Bangkok Airways restarted the route in July 2023
Bangkok Airways has flown between the island and Hong Kong for years and restarted the route after the pandemic on 1 July 2023. The relaunch schedule had three flights a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. PG805 left Samui at 10:55 and reached Hong Kong at 15:15, a block time of 3 hours 20 minutes. Frequency has changed since, so check the search above for your dates.
Bangkok Airways is a full-service airline. Economy fares normally include a checked bag and a meal. Muslim (halal) meals can be requested when you book or at least 24 hours before departure.
Samui airport, minutes from Chaweng and Bophut
Samui International Airport is in the north-east corner of the island and was built and is still run by Bangkok Airways. The open-sided terminal buildings have separate halls for domestic and international passengers. Chaweng and Bophut are only 10 to 20 minutes away by taxi or hotel transfer; from Lamai or the quieter west coast, allow longer. A late-morning departure leaves time for breakfast before checkout.
From the island west of the city by the 24-minute train
Hong Kong International Airport is on Chek Lap Kok island, west of the city. The Airport Express reaches Hong Kong station in Central in about 24 minutes, stopping at Tsing Yi and Kowloon, and free shuttle buses link Kowloon and Hong Kong stations with many hotels. Taxis and public buses also run from the arrivals hall.
Hong Kong has its own entry rules, separate from mainland China. Many nationalities can visit without a visa for a set period, while others need a visa or a pre-arrival registration. Check the Hong Kong Immigration Department's website for your passport before booking.
Bangkok first, then a domestic hop to Samui
Koh Samui has no flights to Dhaka. Travellers starting in South Asia usually fly to Bangkok (see Dhaka to Bangkok flights) and connect on a Bangkok Airways domestic flight to the island. Dhaka also has its own service to Hong Kong: see Dhaka to Hong Kong flights.
