British Airways, Thai Airways International, EVA Air and Norse Atlantic Airways fly nonstop from London to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok, using Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW). The 9,577 km flight takes about 12 hours 30 minutes. It is one of the classic long-haul holiday routes from Britain, and Bangkok is also the first stop for many travellers heading on around Asia.
British Airways, Thai Airways and EVA Air include bags, meals and entertainment. Norse Atlantic Airways sells the seat on its own and charges for those extras, and it flies the route seasonally. Check which London airport your ticket uses before booking the journey there.
For Heathrow, the Heathrow Express runs from Paddington to Heathrow Central (Terminals 2 and 3) in about 15 minutes, every 15 minutes, with Terminal 5 a few minutes further. The Elizabeth line takes about 27 minutes from Paddington and is cheaper; from Terminal 4, a free shuttle train links to Heathrow Central. Gatwick, south of London, has the Gatwick Express and Thameslink trains.
Every foreign traveller completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before landing. It is free on tdac.immigration.go.th, opens three days before arrival and has applied since 1 May 2025.
British passport holders are on Thailand's new 30-day visa-exemption list, which replaced the 60-day scheme on 15 September 2026. That shortens the visa-free stay many UK travellers were used to, so anyone planning a longer trip should look at the Thai e-Visa options on our Thailand visa page.
Long-haul aircraft often park at SAT-1, the satellite concourse. An automated train runs through a tunnel of about one kilometre to the main terminal in about three minutes, then it is a walk to immigration.
Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan links to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. Bus 389 to Pattaya leaves Exit 8 on the first floor between 10:00 and 18:00 for 130 baht, and minibus 555 runs to Don Mueang for domestic low-cost flights.
Travellers returning to the UK on a non-British passport may need an Electronic Travel Authorisation, which applies to visitors from 85 visa-free nationalities; GOV.UK lists the fee as £20.
The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). London also has its own nonstop flights to Bangladesh: see London to Dhaka flights.
