Bangkok to London flight guide
Various airlines fly nonstop from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok to London: British Airways, Thai Airways International, EVA Air and Norse Atlantic Airways. The flights use Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW). The 9,577 km journey takes about 12 hours 30 minutes, the longest nonstop sector out of Bangkok to Western Europe, and it carries holidaymakers, the UK's Thai community and business travellers.
British Airways, Thai Airways and EVA Air are full-service, with bags, meals and entertainment included. Norse Atlantic Airways is a long-haul low-cost airline: its basic fare covers the seat, and bags, meals and seat choice cost extra. Norse flies the route seasonally. Check whether your ticket lands at Heathrow or Gatwick, as the airports are on opposite sides of London.
All the airlines depart from Suvarnabhumi, 27 minutes from Phaya Thai on the Airport Rail Link. Wide-body flights to Europe often board at SAT-1, the satellite concourse with 28 gates; an automated train covers the tunnel of about one kilometre from the main terminal in about three minutes.
Heathrow is west of the city. The Heathrow Express runs from Heathrow Central (Terminals 2 and 3) to Paddington in about 15 minutes, with trains every 15 minutes and Terminal 5 a few minutes further. The Elizabeth line takes about 27 minutes to Paddington, stopping at six stations on the way, and continues through central London. The Piccadilly line is the slowest and cheapest. From Terminal 4, take the free shuttle train to Heathrow Central.
Gatwick lies south of London, linked to the centre by the Gatwick Express and Thameslink trains.
Visitors from 85 nationalities that do not need a visa, including those from the United States, Canada and France, must now hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travel. GOV.UK lists the fee as £20 for an online or app application. British and Irish citizens, visa holders and people with permission to live, work or study in the UK do not need one. Other nationalities need a visa; use GOV.UK's checker for your passport.
Travellers from Dhaka arrive at Suvarnabhumi on Biman, US-Bangla or Thai Airways (see our Dhaka to Bangkok flights page), the same airport as all the London flights. On separate tickets you clear Thai immigration and check in again, which needs permission to enter Thailand and a completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card. Dhaka also has its own flights to London: see Dhaka to London flights.
