Delhi to Dhaka flight guide
A number of airlines fly nonstop from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi (DEL) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC): Air India, IndiGo and Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The 1,425 km flight takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, slightly quicker than the outbound leg. It carries patients returning from treatment, business travellers and visitors to Bangladesh.
All of them fly single-aisle jets. IndiGo's Airbus A321neo is the biggest, with 222 economy seats, but includes only 15 kg of checked baggage. Air India's A320neo or A320 carries about 180 passengers with 25 kg, and Biman's Boeing 737-800 has 162 seats with 30 kg. All allow 7 kg in the cabin. Biman brought back its direct Delhi flights in 2019 after a six-year gap. If you are coming home after treatment, keep reports and medicines in your hand luggage.
International departures, IndiGo's included, use Terminal 3, about 16 km from the city centre. The Airport Express metro from New Delhi station takes about 15 minutes, calling at Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Aerocity. Avoid the Magenta Line for this trip: it serves Terminal 1, which has no international flights. In-town check-in at New Delhi station no longer takes international passengers, so carry your bags to the terminal.
December and January bring fog and smog to Delhi. The airport has CAT III-B runways for very low visibility, but check your flight status before leaving for the airport on a winter morning.
Bangladeshi citizens enter on their passport. Indian passport holders and other foreign nationals should arrange a Bangladesh visa before flying; Bangladesh's missions in India restored full visa services on 20 February 2026 after a pause. Dhaka is half an hour ahead of Delhi.
In Dhaka you land at the existing terminals of Hazrat Shahjalal. The new Terminal 3 is due for a soft opening on 16 December 2026, with full operations expected in March or April 2027, so check which building your flight uses. The Maitree Express rail link from Kolkata has been suspended since 19 July 2024, so flying is the practical way between the two capitals.
Three airlines operate direct flights from Delhi (DEL) to Dhaka (DAC). The flight takes about 2h 30m.

Getting there
It can. Delhi's fog and smog have disrupted flights badly in past winters, notably in 2005. Today it is one of three Indian airports with CAT III-B runways for very low visibility, but a December or January departure still deserves a check of your flight status before you leave for the airport.
Terminal 3. Terminal 1 handles domestic low-cost flights only. IndiGo's international departures, including Dhaka, leave from Terminal 3, so do not follow the domestic signs if you arrive by the Magenta Line.
The Airport Express. The Magenta Line stops at Terminal 1, which has no international flights, while the Airport Express serves Terminal 3 and takes about 15 minutes from New Delhi station.
From New Delhi it calls at Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Aerocity before the airport stop, then continues to Dwarka. Change at Dhaula Kuan only if your hotel is in that part of the city.
Not any more. Terminal 2 handled international traffic until July 2010, when everything moved to Terminal 3. Today it serves some domestic flights only.
IndiGo's Airbus A321neo, laid out with 222 economy seats. Air India's A320neo typically carries about 180, and Biman's Boeing 737-800 has 162.
Not a direct one. The Maitree Express, which linked Kolkata with Dhaka Cantonment by rail, has been suspended since 19 July 2024, so flying is the practical choice.
About 16 km from the centre and 15 km southwest of New Delhi Railway Station. On the Airport Express that distance takes about a quarter of an hour; by road it depends heavily on the traffic.
General
Yes, by 30 minutes. India keeps a half-hour offset from UTC and Bangladesh a whole six hours, so add half an hour to your watch when you land in Dhaka.
Not for an international flight. The in-town check-in counters at New Delhi station once handled international passengers, but that stopped during COVID, so you check in at Terminal 3 itself.
Timing & weather
Biman brought back its direct Delhi flights in 2019 after a six-year gap, and has kept the route alongside the Indian carriers since then.
