Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka flight guide
A number of airlines fly nonstop from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC): Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air Malaysia, AirAsia, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines. The 2,642 km flight takes about 3 hours 55 minutes, and Bangladeshi workers and students heading home fill a large share of the seats.
With a full suitcase, the main question is how much you can check in. Malaysia Airlines, Biman and US-Bangla each include 30 kg in the hold. Batik Air Malaysia allows 20 kg. AirAsia's basic fare stops at a 7 kg cabin bag, so add a hold bag online before flying if you need one. Every airline caps the cabin bag at 7 kg.
Batik Air runs the most flights, about 21 a week on OD162, OD164 and OD166, followed by Malaysia Airlines with about 14 on MH102 and MH196.
Malaysia Airlines uses the 174-seat Boeing 737-8 and sometimes an Airbus A330-300, typically seating around 290, which is the only wide-body on the route. Batik Air flies Boeing 737-8 and 737-800 jets, AirAsia the Airbus A320 and A321neo, and Biman the Boeing 737-800. Check the aircraft for your date if a roomier cabin matters.
The airport is at Sepang, about 45 km from the city. Check whether you fly from Terminal 1 or AirAsia's Terminal 2 before setting off.
The KLIA Ekspres from KL Sentral takes about 30 minutes to Terminal 1 and another 3 minutes to Terminal 2 over the 57 km line, far more predictable than a taxi in traffic. Since 8 December 2025, trains after 11 pm stop at all stations and service runs until 1 am. KLIA Transit uses the same track with stops at Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, and Salak Tinggi.
City check-in at KL Sentral was offered on this route only by Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air Malaysia as of 2024. Biman, US-Bangla and AirAsia passengers check in at the airport.
At Terminal 1, the Aerotrain links the main building with Satellite A in 3 minutes and carries up to 270 people. It returned to full service on 1 July 2025 after two years of repairs, and the gate on your boarding pass tells you if you need it.
Dhaka is two hours behind Kuala Lumpur all year, Malaysia on UTC+8 and Bangladesh on UTC+6, so a flight of just under four hours lands less than two hours after its departure time by the local clocks.
At Shahjalal in Kurmitola, official taxis book at a kiosk in arrivals, and Airport Railway Station is across the road. The toll expressway from Kawla has carried cars 11.5 km to Farmgate since September 2023, with a Karwan Bazar ramp since March 2024. BRTC buses have run on it since 18 September 2023, a cheap ride for anyone with only an AirAsia cabin bag.
Terminal 3 was partially inaugurated on 7 October 2023 and is scheduled for a soft opening on 16 December 2026 and full operations in March or April 2027; complete, it lifts yearly capacity from 8 million to 24 million. For Chattogram or Sylhet, the single-storey domestic terminal lies to the left of the international halls. Passengers on Biman or US-Bangla can ask whether the onward leg can go on the same ticket.
