Malaysia Airlines, Royal Jordanian, Thai Airways International and Thai VietJet Air land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK); AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia and Thai AirAsia at Don Mueang (DMK). The 1,222 km flight takes about 2 hours. It is one of the busiest routes in Southeast Asia and a classic short break for people living in Malaysia.
KLIA is in Sepang, about 45 km south of the city, and handled about 63 million passengers in 2025. Malaysia Airlines flies from Terminal 1; AirAsia from Terminal 2, which opened in 2014 as klia2. The KLIA Ekspres from KL Sentral reaches the airport in about half an hour, so check which terminal your airline uses before boarding. Subang, closer to the city, is used by some Batik Air Malaysia flights.
Malaysia Airlines, Royal Jordanian and Thai Airways International include a checked bag. Thai VietJet Air, AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia and Thai AirAsia are low-cost and charge for checked baggage.
Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok and opened in 2006. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan connects to the MRT Blue Line. Some gates are in the SAT-1 satellite building, linked to the main terminal by an underground train. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals.
Don Mueang lies north of the city and is the base of Thailand's low-cost airlines. International flights use Terminal 1. The SRT Dark Red Line stops there, and bus A3 runs to Pratunam, Ratchaprasong and Lumpini Park for 50 baht.
Thai entry rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor fills in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.
The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). If you land at Don Mueang, allow time to cross the city and check in again. Kuala Lumpur also has its own flights: see Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka flights.
