Kuala Lumpur to Phuket flight guide
Kuala Lumpur to Phuket is a nonstop flight of about 1 hour 25 minutes and 705 km from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Phuket International Airport (HKT), flown by Batik Air Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines. It is one of the quickest beach escapes from the Malaysian capital and a simple add-on for travellers already connecting through KLIA.
Malaysia Airlines, a full-service carrier, normally includes a checked bag and refreshments in its fare and flies from KLIA Terminal 1. Batik Air Malaysia keeps the base fare low and charges for bags, meals and seat selection. Compare the two with the luggage you will actually carry.
KLIA lies in Sepang, about 45 km south of the city. The KLIA Ekspres runs from KL Sentral every 20 minutes and reaches Terminal 1 in about 28 minutes, with Terminal 2 three minutes further on. The standard one-way adult fare is RM55, and group and family deals run at times. Make sure you know which terminal your airline uses before you board.
Phuket International Airport is at the northern tip of the island. Patong, Kata and Karon are around an hour's drive south.
Airports of Thailand lists several ways on. The Airport Bus Express to Patong via Thalang and Kathu runs from 8 am to 8 pm. A city bus leaves hourly for Phuket Town from 8:15 am to 8:15 pm. The Phuket Smart Bus, which picks up beside the domestic terminal, follows the west coast to Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai. Public vans run to Patong, Kata and Karon, and car rental desks are on the first floor.
Phuket's airport also offers a shuttle that can be booked ahead, useful if you land after the last bus. For a quick answer on transport, call the Airports of Thailand centre on 1722.
Every non-Thai national must file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online at tdac.immigration.go.th within three days before arrival. It replaced the paper TM6 card on 1 May 2025, and Thai embassy guidance says immigration will not process an arrival without it. It does not replace a visa; visa requirements depend on nationality, and our Thailand visa page explains the current options.
Thailand is one hour behind Malaysia all year. A morning departure from KLIA arrives in Phuket at almost the same clock time as it left.
The best beach weather on Phuket is from about November to April. Malaysian school holidays and the Hari Raya and Chinese New Year breaks are busy times on this route, so book early for those dates.
Ferries and speedboats connect Phuket with Phi Phi and Krabi, and domestic flights run to Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi has flights across Asia, including those on our Bangkok to Dhaka flights page. Kuala Lumpur's own routes are listed on pages such as Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka flights.
File the TDAC the evening before, and keep a screenshot of the confirmation. If you land after 8 pm, the airport buses have stopped, so book a transfer or use the taxi counter in arrivals.
Returning to Kuala Lumpur, foreign visitors file the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online in the three days before arrival, at imigresen-online.imi.gov.my; Malaysian citizens do not need it. From KLIA, the KLIA Ekspres runs into KL Sentral until about 1 am, stopping at all stations after 11 pm.

Getting there

About 1 hour 25 minutes in the air. The two airports are 705 km apart in a straight line; actual times vary a little by airline, aircraft and wind.
Separate international and domestic terminals, side by side. International flights such as this one use the international side, so allow time for immigration on arrival.
Phuket International Airport is at the northern end of the island, so the west-coast beaches are a fair drive away: allow around an hour to Patong or Kata by taxi or minivan, more in traffic. The Phuket Smart Bus runs from the airport down the west coast beaches.
Most flights use Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA): Terminal 1 for Malaysia Airlines and Terminal 2 for AirAsia. Batik Air Malaysia also flies from Don Mueang to Subang, the older airport closer to the city. Your ticket shows KUL or SZB.
Take the KLIA Ekspres. It runs every 20 minutes and reaches Terminal 1 in about 28 minutes; the adult one-way fare is RM55.
Take a taxi from the counter in arrivals or a transfer booked in advance. The Airport Bus Express to Patong runs until 8 pm.
General
The clock moves one hour back on landing in Thailand (Thailand is UTC+7). Neither side uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year.
Yes. All non-Thai nationals, Malaysians included, file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within three days before arrival.
What's included
It depends on the airline. Batik Air Malaysia is a low-cost carrier whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On Batik Air Malaysia, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
