Flying from Muscat to Dhaka

In short

Several airlines fly nonstop from Muscat International Airport (MCT) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC): SalamAir, US-Bangla Airlines, Oman Air and Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The 3,262 km flight takes about 4 hours 35 minutes eastbound. Most passengers are Bangladeshis working in Oman going home on leave, and seats fill early around both Eids.

SalamAir's 20 kg or 30 kg on the other three

SalamAir runs about 14 flights a week on OV493 and OV497 with an Airbus A321neo and 20 kg checked on a standard fare. US-Bangla flies daily, Oman Air four times a week on a Boeing 737-800 and Biman twice a week on a Boeing 777-300ER; all of them include 30 kg. Everyone gets 7 kg in the cabin.

Two of them are based in Muscat: Oman Air, the national carrier, and SalamAir, the budget airline. That matters if a delay or rebooking means dealing with a ticket office in Oman. Since Oman Air joined oneworld on 30 June 2025, its flights can earn miles in its own Sindbad scheme or a partner programme in that alliance, though the cheapest fare classes may earn little.

Booking around Eid al-Fitr 2027

Eid al-Fitr is expected around 9 to 11 March 2027, subject to the moon sighting, and the days just before it are when Oman's Bangladeshi workers all try to travel. Book as early as you can, or fly a week early.

Residence card expiry and night buses to the airport

Check the expiry date on your Omani residence card. If it runs out while you are at home, getting back in becomes the problem.

Mwasalat's airport buses run through the night: the A1 from Mabela and Ruwi, and route 8 between Al Mouj and Al Khuwair. A bus beats a late-night taxi fare if you travel light.

Give family the landing time in Bangladesh time

Oman runs on UTC+4 and Bangladesh on UTC+6, with no summer time in either. Tell whoever is meeting you the landing time in Bangladesh time.

Meeting relatives while Terminal 3 stays closed

Shahjalal is on Dhaka's northern edge, and relatives meeting the flight wait outside the terminal. Terminal 3 has been partly inaugurated but is closed to passengers until a soft opening planned for 16 December 2026; full operations are expected in March or April 2027. Uber and Pathao pick up at arrivals, and a prepaid taxi booth outside the international exit fixes the fare before the trip; keep the slip until you arrive.

The toll expressway's 11.5 km Airport to Farmgate section has been open since September 2023, joined at Kawla just south of the terminal, and the toll is small compared with the time saved at peak hours. MRT Line 6 runs from Uttara North to Motijheel, with the extension to Kamalapur station scheduled for 1 January 2027; until then, finish the last stretch to the railway station by rickshaw or CNG.

For Rajshahi or Saidpur, the separate single-storey Domestic Terminal sits next to the international building. After immigration and customs, collect your bags, walk across and check in again unless the airline has confirmed a through ticket.

Summer leave and Dhaka's monsoon

July is Dhaka's wettest month at about 391 mm, and roughly 87% of the yearly rain falls between May and October, so summer leave means heavy afternoon downpours and waterlogged streets.
