Flying from Phnom Penh to Bangkok

In short

A number of airlines fly nonstop from Techo International Airport (KTI) in Phnom Penh to Bangkok. Seven land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Thai AirAsia lands at Don Mueang (DMK). The 520 km flight takes about 1 hour 10 minutes, and it is a busy link for business travellers, Cambodians visiting Thailand and visitors finishing a trip through Cambodia.

Techo airport and the express bus

All flights out of Phnom Penh have used Techo International Airport since 9 September 2025, when it replaced the old airport at Pochentong. Techo lies in Kandal province about 19 km south of the city. The Phnom Penh City Bus Authority runs an airport express bus daily from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and taxis and ride-hailing cars also make the trip. Give yourself around an hour from the riverside, more at rush hour.

The airport is a hub for Air Cambodia, Cambodia Airways and Sky Angkor Airlines, all of which fly this route. Its first phase handles up to 13 million passengers a year on a single 4,000 m runway.

Full-service and low-cost airlines to Bangkok

Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways International and Turkish Airlines join the Cambodian airlines at Suvarnabhumi, with Thai VietJet Air as the low-cost option there. Thai AirAsia flies into Don Mueang. Thai VietJet Air and Thai AirAsia charge for checked bags, so add one when you book if you need it; the full-service airlines include a bag in the fare.

Suvarnabhumi for same-day connections

Suvarnabhumi suits anyone flying on the same day, because it handles most long-haul and regional connections. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan connects to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals.

Don Mueang is north of the city and a little closer to Chatuchak and Mo Chit. City bus A1 runs to the BTS at Chatuchak and Mo Chit 2 bus terminal, and A2 to Victory Monument, each for 30 baht; A3 and A4 go to Pratunam and Lumpini, or to Khaosan Road, for 50 baht. The SRT Dark Red Line stops at the airport and runs to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, where it meets the MRT Blue Line.

Thai visa rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.

Transfers to the Dhaka flights

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways all leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). If you land at Don Mueang, allow at least four hours to cross the city and check in again. Airports of Thailand runs a free shuttle bus between Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi for passengers holding an air ticket. There is no time change, since both countries keep UTC+7.
