Bangkok to Buriram flight guide
Thai AirAsia is the only airline flying between Bangkok and Buriram, and every flight leaves from Don Mueang (DMK). The hop covers about 320 km and takes about 50 minutes. Thai AirAsia's Suvarnabhumi service to Buriram is suspended, and Nok Air left the route in 2024.
The flight is short; the drive at the far end is the part to plan. Buriram Airport is not in Buriram town but in Satuek district, about 34 km to the north, set back from Highway 219 in the Khok Jot forest reserve. Allow 30 to 40 minutes into town and well over an hour to Surin, about 75 km away. A privately run van links the airport with Buriram bus station, taxis meet flights in small numbers, and car rental firms have desks at the terminal. Grab works in town but cars are scarce out at Satuek. See the Buriram Airport guide for all the options.
Most of the year Buriram is a quiet airport. When Chang International Circuit hosts MotoGP, it is the opposite: for the 2026 Grand Prix of Thailand, held from 27 February to 1 March, more than 120 scheduled, extra and private flights were planned over two weeks. Seats, rooms and airport transport sell out early, so book the flight, a hotel and a car from the airport together.
Arriving passengers now use the new 25,500 m² terminal, in trial use since February 2026, with signs in Thai and English. It replaced a single-storey building of about 4,100 m², so older photos look nothing like it.
Domestic flights at Don Mueang depart from Terminal 2. Thai AirAsia's basic fare covers a cabin bag only, with checked bags sold as extras. Our Don Mueang guide explains the Red Line and bus links to the airport.
Four Airports of Thailand bus routes link Don Mueang with the city for 30 to 50 baht. A1 runs between the airport and Mo Chit 2 bus terminal via BTS Chatuchak (6:50 am to 11:59 pm) and A2 to Victory Monument (5 am to 10 pm), both for 30 baht. A3 serves Pratunam, Ratchaprasong and Lumpini Park (7 am to 11 pm) and A4 goes via Democracy Monument and Khao San Road to Sanam Luang (7 am to 10:40 pm), both for 50 baht. The bus stops are on the first floor of each terminal.
Flying in from abroad to Suvarnabhumi and connecting to Buriram the same day? Suvarnabhumi's public transportation centre has minibus 555 to Don Mueang from 6:30 am to 8 pm, for up to 60 baht. A taxi is faster but still takes an hour or more in traffic, so leave at least four hours between flights on separate tickets. International arrivals in Thailand also need the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, filed online within three days before landing; the Buriram leg itself is domestic and needs only your passport or Thai ID.
Domestic departures leave from Terminal 2; check the departure screens for your gate after security. Questions about the airport's transport can go to the Airports of Thailand call centre on 1722.
Isan's cool, dry season from November to February is the most comfortable time for the Khmer temples at Phanom Rung and Muang Tam, in the south of the province. March to May is very hot, and the rains run from about June to October.

Thai AirAsia is Buriram's only airline and flies from Don Mueang. Its Suvarnabhumi service is suspended.
Basic fares include a cabin bag only. In MotoGP weeks fares rise quickly, so book early.
Three things that catch people out.
Taxis are few and the shuttle van runs only to the bus station. A pre-booked car takes the guesswork out of the drive.
Flights, hotels and cars all sell out in race weeks. Book the three together as soon as the dates are known.
Thai AirAsia flies Buriram from Don Mueang only. If you land at Suvarnabhumi, allow time for the transfer across Bangkok.
Buriram is close enough to Bangkok that the train and bus are real alternatives, but both take most of a day.
