Bangkok to Trang flight guide
A number of airlines fly from Bangkok to Trang, all from Don Mueang (DMK). The flight covers about 720 km and takes around an hour and 25 minutes, landing 7 km south of Trang town at a terminal that opened in September 2025.
For many passengers Trang is the start of a longer journey. The piers at Pak Meng and Hat Yao serve Koh Mook, Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai and are within an hour's drive of the airport, and minivans run to Koh Lanta in two and a half to three hours, crossing on the car ferry. Island boats stop running in the afternoon, so the flight you pick decides whether you reach the island the same day. Take a morning departure if you are heading straight to the coast.
Flights leave from Terminal 2, the domestic side of Don Mueang. None of the airlines flies to Trang from Suvarnabhumi, so if you arrive in Thailand there, use the free inter-airport shuttle for ticketed passengers and leave plenty of time. From central Bangkok, the SRT Dark Red Line reaches Don Mueang station, across a footbridge from the terminals, in about 20 minutes from Krung Thep Aphiwat.
Trang Airport is domestic only, so you walk from the aircraft to the baggage belt and out. Shared taxis and vans meet each flight and drop passengers in town in about 15 minutes; confirm whether the price is per person or for the whole car. Car rental counters are in the arrivals area. Trang town deserves a night in its own right: it is famous across Thailand for dim sum breakfasts and roast pork.
All the airlines are low-cost carriers and price checked bags separately on their cheapest fares, which matters if you are carrying snorkelling or diving gear. The Andaman coast is at its calmest from about November to April. From May to October the south-west monsoon brings rain and rougher seas, and boats to the islands can be cancelled.
Trang Airport (TST) opened on 13 December 1954 and is run by the Department of Airports. Its new domestic terminal opened on 5 September 2025, almost five years later than planned. The runway is 2,100 m long; an extension to 2,990 m is waiting on environmental review and now expected in 2028.
The airport's growth explains the new building. Trang counted only 143 passengers in 2009 and close to 800,000 in 2017 once the low-cost airlines arrived. In 2024 it handled 559,844 passengers on 3,756 aircraft movements.
Nok Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air are all based at Don Mueang. Nok Air flies 189-seat Boeing 737-800s with its painted beak livery. Thai AirAsia uses Airbus A320-family jets and has been flying since February 2004. Thai Lion Air, part of Indonesia's Lion Air Group, flies Boeing 737-800s and 737-900ERs and started operating in December 2013. All of them sell the same basic product on this route, so the departure time and the bag fee usually decide it.
Don Mueang, the departure airport, opened as a military air base in 1914 and handled 31.65 million passengers in 2025. It has two runways of 3,700 m and 3,500 m and is owned by the Royal Thai Air Force, with Airports of Thailand running the terminals. Coming from Suvarnabhumi, the cross-city transfer takes about an hour to an hour and a half by rail or bus before you even reach check-in.
One change for late 2026: Nok Air has suspended Bangkok to Trang from 27 October to 20 December 2026, so in that window only Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air fly the route.

All the airlines fly from Don Mueang Terminal 2. Trang has no flights from Suvarnabhumi.
Each airline sells checked baggage separately on its lowest fares; add sports equipment such as dive gear at booking. Check the fare rules before paying.
Plan the flight around the boats, not the other way round.
Boats from Pak Meng and Hat Yao to Koh Mook, Kradan and Ngai finish in the afternoon. A morning departure from Don Mueang leaves time for the drive to the pier.
Shared taxis and vans meet every flight, but some quote per seat and some per car. Ask before you load your bags.
Minivans from the airport cross to Koh Lanta on the car ferry. Seats fill up from December to March, so reserve before you fly.
