Bangkok to Hat Yai flight guide
A number of airlines fly nonstop from Bangkok to Hat Yai, and the airport you leave from decides which ones you can book. Various airlines use Don Mueang (DMK), while two fly from Suvarnabhumi (BKK). The straight-line distance is about 776 km and the flight takes roughly 1 hour 25 minutes.
Hat Yai is the commercial centre of Songkhla province and the busiest airport in Thailand's lower south. People fly down for business, for the night markets and the food, to see family in the deep south, or to carry on to Songkhla town, Satun or the Malaysian border. Thai Airways' winter 2026/27 timetable lists 21 Bangkok to Hat Yai flights a week, and the low-cost airlines at Don Mueang add plenty more.
Don Mueang handles domestic departures in Terminal 2 and is the easier start if you are staying in the north of Bangkok or near the old city; the SRT Red Line stops across a footbridge from the terminal. Suvarnabhumi makes more sense when you are connecting from an international Thai Airways flight, because one ticket keeps you in the same building with your bag checked through to Hat Yai. Our Don Mueang airport guide and Suvarnabhumi airport guide explain how to reach each one.
The Don Mueang airlines and Thai VietJet Air sell their cheapest fares with a cabin bag only, and a checked bag is an add-on that costs less online than at the counter. Thai Airways includes a checked bag in economy. If you plan to bring back shopping from Hat Yai's markets, add the bag before you compare prices.
Hat Yai International Airport sits 10 to 12 km south-west of the city along Highway 4135, a drive of 20 to 30 minutes. In arrivals you will find a taxi counter, a fixed-price AOT Limousine desk, the Airport Van to central stops such as Central Festival, Lee Garden and Kim Yong Market, and a city minibus to Hat Yai Bus Terminal that runs from 06:00 to 23:30.
Prices on the Airports of Thailand page are low. The Airport Van costs 100 baht and leaves from the arrival gates under the "Arrival Van" sign, stopping at Sanamanusorn, Central Festival, Lee Garden, Shichang and Kim Yong Market. The microbus charges 60 baht for the whole line and calls at the Clock Tower, Prince of Songkla University and Central Festival on its way to the bus terminal. Cheapest of all is the local minibus from a stop about 100 metres from the terminal, at 20 to 30 baht a head with a loose timetable, best if you carry little. The terminal closes from midnight to 06:00, so a late arrival should head straight into town. The Hat Yai airport guide covers each option in detail.
Hat Yai lies on the Gulf side of the peninsula, where the heaviest rain falls from October to December and the city has a long record of November flooding. February to April is the driest stretch. Book early for Chinese New Year, when the city's large Thai-Chinese community and visitors from Malaysia fill the hotels.
Rental desks are on the first floor of the terminal, and the Sawasdee by AOT app offers advance-booking rates. A car is useful for Songkhla town, Satun or a day by the border, since public transport into the wider province starts from Hat Yai Bus Terminal, the last stop of the airport minibus and microbus.
Nok Air has suspended its Don Mueang to Hat Yai flights from 27 October to 20 December 2026, citing higher jet fuel costs, so between those dates the low-cost choice from Don Mueang is Thai AirAsia or Thai Lion Air.

A cheap fare from the wrong airport can cost you an hour across Bangkok. Check whether your hotel is nearer Don Mueang or Suvarnabhumi before you book.
