Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat flight guide
A number of airlines connect Bangkok with Nakhon Si Thammarat. Various airlines fly from Don Mueang (DMK), while Thai VietJet Air flies from Suvarnabhumi (BKK). The two airports are about 602 km apart in a straight line, and the flight takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Most of the choice is at Don Mueang, where domestic flights use Terminal 2. If you are coming off an international arrival at Suvarnabhumi, the Thai VietJet Air departure saves you the cross-town transfer; otherwise the free inter-airport bus for connecting passengers takes an hour or more in traffic. Our Don Mueang airport guide and Suvarnabhumi airport guide cover check-in and getting there.
All of them are low-cost airlines, so the basic fare usually covers a cabin bag only. Checked luggage is sold as an add-on, and it is cheaper when you add it at booking than at the airport counter.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport is in Pak Phun, about 14 km north of the old city, and every scheduled flight there comes from Bangkok. The terminal is small and quick to leave. A public airport bus runs into the city on two routes, one to the Bo Kho So bus station area and one to Na Luang, and a taxi counter in the arrivals hall sells rides at listed prices, so there is no haggling. The drive to the centre takes 20 to 25 minutes. The Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport guide has the bus hours and counter details.
The city's great sight is Wat Phra Mahathat, whose chedi stands around 78 m tall, about 25 minutes from the airport by car. Plenty of passengers skip the city altogether: NST is the nearest airport to the beaches at Khanom and Sichon, and Lomprayah sells combined coach and boat tickets from the terminal to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
Weather is worth a thought. This stretch of the Gulf coast takes its heaviest rain in November and December, when storms can hold up flights and ferries. February to April is the driest and most dependable time for temple visits and the beaches.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport is 14 km from the city centre. Its runway measures 2,100 m by 45 m, and the first scheduled flights landed on 1 December 1998, when Thai Airways International and PBair began services from Bangkok.
Between 27 October and 20 December 2026 Nok Air is not flying from Don Mueang to Nakhon Si Thammarat. The airline suspended the route, together with Trang and Hat Yai, over jet fuel costs.

Various low-cost airlines fly from Don Mueang and one from Suvarnabhumi, so check the airport on your ticket before you set off.
All of them sell basic fares with a cabin bag only. Add checked baggage when you book; it costs more at the counter.
Three things to sort out before you fly south.
Nok Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air leave from Don Mueang, Thai VietJet Air from Suvarnabhumi. Landing in Bangkok on an international flight, the Suvarnabhumi option avoids a road transfer of an hour or more.
The public bus is much cheaper than a taxi and runs from morning into the evening. It stops at the bus station area and Na Luang rather than at hotels.
Lomprayah's joint ticket links the airport with the Gulf islands. Buy it in advance and confirm where the coach picks up.
The train and the bus both take a full day or a night. Flying wins unless you want the overnight sleeper experience.

Getting there
Both. A number of airlines use Don Mueang, and Thai VietJet Air uses Suvarnabhumi. Check the three-letter code on your booking, because the airports are about an hour apart by road.
About 1 hour 15 minutes in the air. The airports are roughly 602 km apart in a straight line.
A public airport bus runs on two routes, to the Bo Kho So bus station area and to Na Luang. The taxi counter in arrivals sells rides at listed prices, and the drive takes 20 to 25 minutes.
Take the free inter-airport bus, which carries passengers who can show an onward ticket for that day. The ride takes an hour or more in traffic, so leave three to four hours between flights. Booking Thai VietJet Air from Suvarnabhumi avoids the transfer.
Terminal 2, the domestic terminal. It is joined to Terminal 1 by an indoor walkway, a few minutes on foot.
About 25 minutes by car. The temple is at the southern end of the old city, its chedi is around 78 m tall, and it is free to enter.
Yes, it is the nearest airport to Khanom and Sichon. Public transport out there is thin, so a rental car from the arrivals hall or a pre-booked driver is the practical choice.
Airports of Thailand suggests two hours. Bag drop on the low-cost airlines shuts well ahead of departure, and Terminal 2 gets crowded in the morning, so an early flight south leaves little slack.
No. It was designated a customs airport in 2013, but every scheduled flight today goes to Bangkok.
What's included
Usually not on the cheapest fares. All the airlines are low-cost and include a cabin bag only; checked luggage is bought separately and costs less when added online at booking.
